We lost by 12. Not 1 or a last second 3 at the buzzer.

It's the first loss since 2011. The coach: Paul Hewitt from Georgia Tech.

I really, really hate that USA lost. I pull for all US teams no matter who is coaching.
Now that said, I remember non-Duke fans saying that with the the talent available in USA basketball (specifically the Olympic team) all you have to do is roll the basketball out on the court. And of course that isn't true (U-19, Olympics, whatever). You need the right mix of players, with good chemistry, and a coaching staff that knows how to draw the best out of each individual player while working together for the goal in mind. And with a lose and go home format, nothing is a certainty.

Are people really surprised they lost? Calling Cal a mediocre coach may be too much of compliment; his recruiting and program are that strong that he can hide his deficiencies with X's and O's.

Since it hasn't been done since 2011, yup

Check out this ********.

"I wonder how different Duke's academic requirements are for athletes as opposed to non-athletes. Anyone know? Heard they differentiate quite a bit."

"I dont remember the specifics, but Duke athletes are not ivy leaguers. Duke lowered their standards for athletes a long while back.

I mean come on, corey maggetti mayne? Trevon Duval bra?

These guys can barely spell their name."

Duke bball players are like Notre Dame football players. I have NEVER heard any of them sound borderline illiterate like I have soooooo many times when SEC athletes embarrass themselves and their school when being interviewed. What a joke.

And that includes ND bball and Duke football players as well. Jealous bunch of A Holes all over. And you can include the likes of Clemson, FSU, USC, Ohio St., Texas....etc., as some of the "I would NEVER be 'attending college' if I weren't an athlete" crowd as well. Oh yeah, the Holes too!

Might be wrong, but I am pretty sure Stanford was recruiting Corey M. pretty hard.

Well.....the mildcat fans can say Cal has at least done one thing that coach K hasn't done.....Coached a highly touted class to an NIT first round loss!!!

Everyone has said how Coach K has this completely unfair advantage in recruiting because he is the Olympic coach. My question is do any of these guys _really_ want the job? Would Calipari like to be the coach of the team that doesn't bring home the gold?

Its a great job until you actually have to do it.

Agree completely Lt. We can't imagine the pressure on them. I never have lost a game as a fan. Yes I've questioned Coach K from here and my recliner, but he's forgot more than I'll ever know, and we love to poke fun at Cal and Roy, but they're not that bad of coaches, just not near the coach as K is imo. Think of what K has accomplished since 2009. Gold medals and 2 ncaa titles, plus he's no spring chicken

The only way Calipari can win is to be absolutely talented over his opponents. If it comes down to teams being close to equal and he has to coach a team to a victory,,,I will put my money on the other team every time and win money on almost every account. His natty team was just ridiculous, but if he was any kind of an X's and O's coach he would have at least 2 more nattys which I'm glad he doesn't.

Right! I love Cal's ability to choke. Hope he never retires.
