As the popular sports brand says "JUST DO IT!" Lol, I know we have a separate Knox thread, but this is for all those kids who already know, and are delaying their commitment..... Its not fair to your coach- quit playing prima donna....Just commit for crying out loud....Honestly, there should be a deadline IMO... Thanks for letting me vent- OFC

Yeah he knows where he's going and has for a while. The only reason he hasn't made the announcement is he can't figure out if he likes the " nanner puddin " enough to justify going to unccheat . Just kidding. He may have not even tasted that stuff yet and let's hope he doesn't. I understand he's a good player and we could use him but follow some examples of other recruits that just simply said I'm going to Duke. Reminds me of harrison barnes and his grandstanding. Will be happy if he becomes a Blue Devil. Just say it one way or another so we all can move on. Same for Duval. OFC

Honestly, I don't have an issue with them waiting. This is a huge decision early in their lives and they are kids. Let them have some fun with it.

I would be very surprised if he went on campus to film the announcement, that the coaches don't already know what the situation is.

Waiting for something to happen can suck, but it's nice when we get a player that was worth the wait.

Like Death and Taxes??? All kidding aside, its still wrong....Kids need to grow up.I never thought it would get to the point where Coach K and Duke University Basketball would be subjected to such drama. The kids ARE NOT bigger than the game and/or the program, no matter how much things "change."

I wouldn't say it's 'wrong'. You're/we're more upset because we --- fans, mind you --- are hanging in limbo. These kinds of things have always happened. I've followed recruiting for over 20 years....and this one doesn't even rank in the top 20 of what I've seen. I remember Jim Sumner talking years back about recruits waiting until summer was over and just showing up when school starts back in the day. Hell, didn't our guy Art Heyman flip last minute from UNC to Duke. Can you imagine that today? The reason it's more prevalent today than before is because of social media.

And for the record....like you, I don't care for it, either. I just follow the mantra of wake me when it's over.

for some kids, it may be easier to navigate as uncommitted at all the tournaments and all american games rather than the "x" commit and get nasty blow back from disgruntled fans...????

Blowing minds lol

I assure you....No coach knows until the kid tells the world...Ask UNC fans in the know about Tom McMillan who switched from Chapel Hill to Md shocking Tar Heel nation....I dont know what Lefty pulled, but he sent El Deano into shock.....

I submit they havent "always happened" at least in the Coach K era.....I can think of maybe a handful, Lance Thomas for one comes to mind....Bolden last year. However two at the same time w/the same program in the lead, w/in my opinion the best brand, academics and best coach? HIGHLY UNUSUAL.....

I agree but that's few and far between. The coaches know. Barnes is the only recruitment I think that wasn't really known and was a shock though

Well students don't have to decide which college they want to attend until May 1st I think so a few more days after that for a basketball player I guess isn't outrageous. It's just that they've been recruited for at least 4 years and will only be at the school for a year or two--I mean they must have made up their minds a while ago.

I assure you there have been plenty of times they "thought they knew," but in fact didnt....Its even more prevalent in college football....Sorry I dont trust our chief competitor in the Knox sweepstakes especially. "Few and far between" doesnt apply there... OFC

I can think of at least 4 people that committed later than May 6th... all 5-star prospects.

Andrew Wiggins, 5/14/2013
John Wall, 5/18/2009
Marques Bolden, 5/19/2016
Jarrett Allen, 6/3/2016

I understand that but almost every other elite recruit committed long ago. I get enjoying the attention for a bit but doesn't it get to the point where even they realize it is getting more than silly? Well, I guess not.

But don't we as fans add to their delayment? What I mean is back in the day the players/ kids just informed the coaches and there would be a write up in the paper. Now with all the recruiting sites and social media there tends to be the need for the drama from the recruits stand point. I mean we are all Duke fans and everyone wants him to come to Duke so add in Kentucky and Florida States fan base and that's a rather large crowd waiting to see where your gonna go.

You can submit they haven't all you want, but really, the only thing to change in recruiting is the platform athletes have today vs. 10/20/30 years ago. There have been a number of players in the last 15 years we've been involved with late and lost out on....Patrick Patterson and John Wall the most talked about.

Second, you're assuming Duke is in the lead. While I don't think that's a stretch at all, we don't "know" it to be true. Things change and can also be fabricated at the same time.

Lastly, while I agree with you on Duke's brand, the academics and best coach, there are other programs with attractive features too. Duke isn't for everyone, as much as we might want it to be.

IMO they have used, abused and taken advantage "of that platform." Its an I'll top you game in my announcement (hence Duval and his dad want to do something unprecedented.) Even if you wish to insist its always been like this (and I disagree), its WAY OVER THE TOP considering the kid is likely only going to stay one year. Lol, I believe Heyman actually attended Duke 4 years....OFC

Certainly they have. No one is arguing that. I agree with you.

Its an I'll top you game in my announcement (hence Duval and his dad want to do something unprecedented.)

And is that on the kids or the system? Rivals and 247 aren't small apples. They're making tons of money catering to fans with articles and the latest scoops....every single day. You're posting here. I'm posting here. Lots of others are too. It's working.

Even if you wish to insist its always been like this (and I disagree), its WAY OVER THE TOP considering the kid is likely only going to stay one year.

And that's fine. You're free to disagree. My point wasn't that it's not over the top (I think it is, too)....my point is that now that platform is there for the kids. It wasn't back in the day. But even 25 years ago kids still took their time....we just didn't read tweets and new articles every day about which way the breeze was blowing.

Lol, I believe Heyman actually attended Duke 4 years....OFC

Yes, he did. Today, he wouldn't. My point on Heyman was that it was really, really late in the game when he changed his mind. Something similar would be Wendell Carter saying tomorrow he's going to UNC.

Off-topic....And I'm too lazy to look it up, but didn't the story go something like, McGuire and Heyman's dad got in an actual fist fight over Heyman's dad thinking McGuire didn't care about his kids academics? Then, Heyman's old man pulled a fast one and said his kid was going to Duke instead. Hell, I think McGuire might have even said Bubas was anti-Semantic to prevent it from happening? Maybe I'm a little mixed up there. Anyway, people can talk all they want to this day about Coach K coming to Duke and that historic class with Johnny Dawkins, but I think an argument could be made that Art Heyman is the most important recruit Duke ever landed. He put Duke on the map, as well as Duke-UNC. Then Coach K colored a lot of the map Duke blue when he arrived. :D

If you guys had my attitude towards Knox, you'd be fine. If he comes to Duke, great. If he doesn't, great. I'm not sweating him. He can come win with us or he can watch us win, up to him.

Sure I agree electronic and print media has exacerbated the process! I think its partially the parents too milking it for all they can, some living vicariously thru their kids....

Heyman's dad did become furious w/McGure and I agree w/you about the significance of securing Art....It lit a fire for Victor "Albert" Bubas and he surpassed UNC for final 4s in 60s!
