KoachQ....dude. You don't enjoy Duke basketball anymore then list a plethora of LIFE happenings. I've disagreed with you on many occasions but still liked many things you brought up. But if a bad run of luck makes you not want to watch Duke anymore, I've gotta say, you're either not as serious of a fan as I thought you were or dare I say, even a bandwagon fan. That all just sounded sad bud. I hate whats been going on as well, but I'll watch EVERY game from now until I'm dead. God, we've had SOOOOOOO many things to celebrate here, it cant all be candy and rainbows every day.

I don't disagree Show..just want to get into the team without something bad always happening...it's been a really long time....Just wishing for some sort of consistency in a season and not always having reasons it's derailed...

Already tired of this new thing with Grayson...Dude can't even step on the court anymore...

I have been a Duke Basketball fan for around 25 to 26 years which I know is less than some of you on the board, but I must say that as the years go on and the one and done has become prominent for us I do feel a disconnect with the team. It seemed as if the 2015 team had been playing together for years and had a great bond. I think that is few and far between these days when guys are out the door after 9 months. It is hard to watch this current group of underclassman, either they do not understand what it means to put on the Duke jersey and play for something bigger than themselves or they simply do not care and are worried about the paycheck that will be coming their way in June. After watching this group of Freshman the only one I see that wont be in the D league is Tatum and even he may be playing there.
If UNC were able to do this and win, I wonder how I'd feel? The winning makes it easier of course, but to see guys come and go every year would take off some of the shine. Not knocking anyone, just curious to know other fan's thoughts. Really only you and UK fans can comment on it.

Duke has had more than one OAD a single time in program history and the only reason that happened was because of the success of that team. That's a fact that UnC fans don't care to want to admit.

This is the first class that we recruited multiple OADs and ironically we could have less go this year than in 2015 bc of the lack of on court success.

Next year as of right now we have two potentials on board.

Either way we are of course recruiting the best of the best but each class we've recruited have also included multi year guys.

Does anyone think ESPN has an actual 'favorite' as you put it?
Absolutely not. What I do think is they care about ratings. Whatever moves the needle is what they'll shove down your throat. Grayson is a huge example. We're in the middle of NFL playoffs, just finished the CFP and one of the best title games ever and two NBA guys averaging a near triple double and this is what we are discussing?

As far as college basketball goes..Duke, UK, UNC, and Kansas I'd say are really the only schools that move the needle from a ratings perspective. Would be interesting to see if a UK or UNC player was going through what Grayson is going through, how much coverage it would get.

Ticket, with all due respect, you would be doing the EXACT same thing in this time and era, if your team and coach were able. I KNOW this is a fact. You simply have not been able to get the super talented kids due to the worries of penalties associated with 18 years of academic fraud. You guys still stay in the upper echelon because of this same fact, you have guys who are in the program longer and are more mature and solid in their chemistry. Fact. 100%.

I totally agree. I was careful to preface my first post with I am jealous of you guys. To Tim's post above, I'm not saying Duke has become a OAD factory like UK, but they are closer than anyone else at present. I was just curious to get some thoughts from people. I do wonder if K coaches for a few more years, would he limit the amount of OADs he would accept? A couple studs mixed in with experience is the best recipe but how do you say no if 4 of the top 10 guys want to play for you?

I won't touch the academic fraud stuff as that is pointless. ;)

I love having the new guys year in and year out! Keeps it fresh! Although it is frustrating when the players don't mesh well but I still feel we have time for that to happen this year.

Personally, I feel more invested in the players when they stick around. I like having the new blood but face it, most are going to not think about Jabari Parker and Rodney Hood well before JJ Reddick and Shelden Williams.

Welcome to Seminole land regarding ESPN. I haven't listened to any of their programs for 5 years and their in game announcers, in football, constantly make bone headed mistakes by misnaming players or even the teams that are playing. They do like to pick certain teams to win and will stick with the narrative throughout the game, example FSU vs Michigan and Clemson vs Alabama

By far the most frustrating year of watching Duke basketball since i started following in 78. Not the losses but the injuries, the unknown about them, K's surgery and now no matter what a new Grayson video everyday.I love the way he has played and he will go down as one of my favorites but you cant tell me that it isnt distracting to the team. Today I wake up and he shoved a coach. Meanwhile at end of article it says incidental contact but the article name"Grayson shoves coach" I know hes brought it on himself but it has become an absolute joke. espn has a guy look at every moment of him playing. Yet barely mentioning a 30 year cheating scandal. They should be ashamed. oh well its not even enjoyable this year

You should have been a Duke fan during the early to mid 70's. That was frustrating. OFC

With fear of Forum board retribution i have to say i agree. With very few players making it 4 years and the players that stay 3 or mostly less dominating the playing time its becoming more difficult to identify with the team and the players. I loved the teams in the 80's and 90's and even through the early 2000's..their grit and battle were amazing to watch...but lately losses dont make me as mad any more, i dont get as excited over wins and i dont change my schedule to make sure i can watch. Dont take this as i dont care, i am and will always be a Duke fan ( thanks Coach K ) it's just my level of zealotry has diminished over the last few seasons.

Well I was born in 68 and lived in PA and read an article about gminski and banks etc in 1979 so I can only complain about what I've seen and read since then. Having read about the early 70s... I hear ya.

I have to say... I don't always understand when people say that the guys are playing like they don't care. What does that literally look like? Do their faces not look sad enough when they get scored on? Are they not quick enough on offense? And how can you tell the difference between just a failure in play and not caring?

I do have an issue when people say they think the young guys don't care, because I am not sure if that is true, or if it is just a reflection of how the viewer THINKS the guys feel.

Some say Tim Duncan rarely looked like he gave a crap.

No doubt in my mind IF the officials don't screw them and it's a big IF and IF they get into a fair bracket and that's a big IF the inc tar heels will roll through the rest of the season and dance their legs off to their 10th NCAA national championship and 11th including that rare and valuable HELMS TROPHY. OFC

I remember someone completely frustrated with Duke, ready to give up the board and Duke after an incident related to Duke Chapel.

I wouldn't be so hard on people's frustration. Basketball isn't life. Neither is Duke. Nor is Duke Chapel (it's stones and mortar).

LOL. I deleted my rebuttal. It doesn't belong on this board. You email me and I'll clear things up for you, otherwise I'll just stick to basketball, kinda like you should. Q and I completely understood where each other was coming from. A mans personal beliefs and feelings about basketball tend to be a bit separate youngman . But thanks for slipping in your typical douschey comment.
