Allen: Stay or Go?

nbadraft.net has Allen going 23rd this year; draftexpress.com has him going 25th next season. He's one of those borderline prospects who may or may not come out. He's not quite a lottery pick, but a probable first rounder. I would love to have him for another year, but I wouldn't be surprised/upset if he ended up leaving early. I think how he plays in March will determine what he ultimately decides.
Allen is a real borderline case IMO. With Giles, Tatum, etc. enrolling and Thornton, Kennard, and Jones returning, I think it's going to be pretty hard for Allen to elevate his stock next season -- as he's just not going to be as big of a focal point of the team. While I think he still puts up pretty good numbers + may improve his efficiency, he's not going to put up numbers that will obviously improve his stock.
With that said, he's not a slam dunk NBA player by any means and, as Tyus Jones's experience underscores, leaving early just b/c you have a pretty good draft stock doesn't always mean you're ready for the NBA -- or even good enough on day 1 to keep a roster spot for a couple years. There are plenty of prospects who left college with better NBA evals. than Grayson who end up getting traded before the end of year 1, and fighting for their careers in year 2. As a result, I don't think it's an obvious decision to leave if he wants to stay. Also, while I probably wouldn't stay for this reason, I do think Allen could have a plausible chance of getting his jersey retired if he keeps up the pace this season and then helps lead next year's squad to a final four or national title -- particularly in view of the game he played against Wisconsin and the simple reality is that he would be the first guy in a number of years to put up AA type numbers in consecutive seasons. Although Grayson's had a couple ugly nights, it really is amazing what kind of numbers he's put up this year. This is not quite JJ sr. year performance; but it is statistically better than JJ as a jr. b/c his overall shooting numbers are a lot better and he does more to create offense for others / on the glass / defensively IMO.

My concern is that he becomes a Jimmer Fredette or Adam Morrison. Rather see his name in the rafters. Pros will still be there, somewhere.

There were rumors of him going last year after he really blew up at the dance. Smart move he didn't go. I feel he may go this especially if he continues to play at the same level. I also agree he will go late in the first round which means he could go to a good team like the Spurs which he will be playing for a great organization and can be brought along at a pace that will keep him in the league a while. OFC
I don't really see how he can improve his draft stock going forward after this year. He will never have better numbers, especially next year with what Duke has coming in. Also, looking at this year's upcoming draft class and comparing it to the following 2 (the best that one can) I would say this upcoming draft class will be the weakest. The NBA is all about upside, hell someone would have taken a flyer on him after his isolated performance in the national championship game last year. Will he damage his draft stock by staying, probably not. But I just don't see a scenario where by staying he is all of a sudden going to be a lottery pick. I think he goes after this year and someone is going to get a bargain. He can shoot from 3, he can pull up from mid range and he can get to the hoop. I think he's a much better stand still shooter than he is mid range shooter and is likely weakest at finishing around the rim, especially against athletic defenders, but to have the ability of all 3 is somewhat rare in today's game. Although his risk is marginal (IMO) if he stays, I don't think he will pass if he grades out as a first round pick.

I love watching Grayson play for our Devils, but I'm afraid there's a good chance he's gone after the season. Just going to enjoy him now, no matter what happens.

His best draft position is this year or senior IMO. Next year is too loaded with early exits and guards. I feel he goes this year or stays all 4.
After the Tyus outcome this season, I'd hope he would learn. That contract Tyus got would have been there at the minimum for the next 3 seasons..... And he could of also been a Duke great which has great benefits as well.... Same goes for Grayson. I'm becoming over the "his stock will never be higher" with such players. To me that's saying I'm playing at a unsustainable rate, I must cash in. Which I know wasn't Tyus, but ya get what I'm saying. It's reality i know, but I'm not sure it's logical

I love the kid! After reading the article on him makes me even more of a fan. I'll probably follow him to whatever team he plays for in the NBA. Whatever happens I hope he stays healthy.
It NBA isnt everyone's "dream" college is important to some players and I think Grayson is one of those. I honestly think Tyus woulda been but people were filling him with that "never can get better" with his draft stock which I'm sorry is bull. If he was here right now he'd be leading prob a top 10 maybe 5 team and avg 20+ ppg with this years weak draft he woulda went higher
I don't think he is going anywhere. I've been saying it all year that I believe he could be a 4 year player and his jersey hang in Cameron some day. I spoke with his cousin last week and he said "from talking with Grayson, I don't think he is going to go after this year." Take that for what it's worth, but that's my 2 cents.

Always viewed Grayson as being at least a 3-year player. I think the pull of next year's recruiting class and the chance at another FF/championship will be enough to bring him back for one more season.
I don't see his stock getting any higher, he has a championship, so it really comes down to wanting a second championship (if we can't get it done this year) and a degree. His scoring will most likely go down next year with 4-5 options on the court not 2-3.
He has alot of ways to improve, especially on the defensive end. Draft stock is one thing, but I think Grayson is smart enough to know its about your second contract, not your first. JJ Redick is a living testament. He could have left early, but stayed 4 years. Even still he had trouble getting minutes his first 3 years until he really learned to defend on the NBA level.
I think he stays all 4 years with 2 championships in that time period and his jersey retired.
