Iowa probably still makes the tournament, but they may slip to a play-in game, which would be appropos, IMHO. Might as well get the loss over with ASAP and move on.
The season's highlights, and there were some terrific ones, are all but forgotten in the wake of the failure on Senior Day vs. Nebraska and whatever that was today against #13 seed Ohio State.

The enthusiasm that was bubbling after the MSU miracle and the absolute domination in Bloomington is long gone. Waiting for Sunday's pairings is like waiting for your parents to see that report card filled with C minuses, or maybe waiting for that root canal you have scheduled. A lot of good kids on this Hawkeye team, but I guess they're just not quite good enough often enough on the court.

BTW: I'll be rooting for Drake and, of course, the Caitlin Clark-led Hawkeyes. Maybe the women can make their Final Four dreams come true . . . maybe even upset undefeated South Carolina and win the whole dang thing. Wouldn't THAT be fun . . .

I am guessing they will be in the 9 spot imo. Don't think they will be in the play in but they didnt do themselves any favors the last week of the season.

This
They'll get an 8 or 9, and be a first round win and a second round sacrificial lamb to a 1 see two days later.

I'm not sure the Hawks would win the 8/9 game! I would not be surprised to see them matched with a West Coast team in a late Thursday or Friday game.

I would prefer they get a 10 seed.

We proved last year that a good seed is no guarantee for anything. If we are hitting our 3's we can beat anybody in the field. If we aren't hitting our 3's we can lose to anyone in the field.

Ain't that the truth!

It really is that simple. No D means we HAVE to hit our shots. The Hawks tighten up, game over.
Lol. Normally I would agree but we have never really seen an Iowa team over the last 5 yrs really get tough on D. When they do coupled with a little 3pt success they are off and running and the next thing you know no one is playing defense and it's a who's scores last game to win.
Absolutely lost as to why not only the coaches but the players also don't see it either.

Fran can't recruit that much is clear. Even crap teams like Auburn have better athletes at all 5 positions than Iowa. Richmond 2.0.

I dunno I honestly thought Iowa was better just badly coached, no poise, no mental toughness, bad strategy until late when we pressed. Oddly enough.

Auburn had lost 9 of its last 13 games. Princeton won yesterday. Furman won yesterday. Iowa lost, as did Virginia and Arizona and Illinois. Northwestern won. Maryland won. And yes, Penn State won. But no, not Iowa . . .

Like KF, Fran has done some good things, but it's time for a new face to lead the progam. Someone younger who understands and recruits for all phases of the game. I'm tired of KF football, and I'm tired of Fran basketball. Let's get rid of Barta and then let a young, new, ambitious AD hire some new, young, ambitious coaches to lead Iowa's football and basketball programs. The football program has some great candidates currently on staff. The basketball program needs a complete overhaul. IMHO, of course. In the meantime, we can root for Xavier and Jack Nunge, Drake and its head coach Darian DeVries, who would be my choice to take over in Iowa City, and Princeton and Furman. And, of course, for Caitlin Clark and her Hawkeyes who have their sights on a Final Four showdown with undefeated South Carolina. That's the match-up I want to see, and I'll take Clark and Iowa in that one.

Agreed

Even if we take a step backwards, at least you are showing a commitment to being better than whatever this is.

Agreed! It’s sad that it has come to this for our basketball program though…

I will say it was refreshing to see the Iowa Women’s team not crumble on the Big Stage…

Iowa Women just played in the National Title game!!!

Iowa Men haven’t been to a Sweet 16 since 1999.

Quite the contrast.
