I found that on another WBB message board and commented I hadn't seen it either. For the Iowa women, I think Jenni Fitzgerald will have her title changed from Special Asst. to the Head Coach to one of these new roles that won't include off-campus recruiting. Will be interesting to see which way they go with the other one, or if they choose to add one.

I was guessing that they would change Kathryn Reynolds' job title/description.

I hadn't seen this posted before but might've missed it. It looks like the NCAA approved adding 2 coaches for both men's and women's basketball this coming July.

I'll be curious what Iowa will do here.
Awesome. Baseball has trouble getting 1 more paid assistant and basketball has as many coaches as it does players. Look at the huddle next time, I swear there is just as many individuals in dress clothes as there is uniforms….I get it- they bring the money in so they can afford more but it’s to the point of ridiculous. Check out the football brochure and see how many coaches they have/
Student coaches,grad assistants, consultants, bla,bla,bla.

The article linked actually says the baseball coach limits are increased to 4 as well, so hopefully they'll take advantage of that.

I’m interested to see how Iowa handles this. I presume most schools will hire additional coaches but I guess I don’t know if all available coaching spots are always filled in non-revenue sports at most schools.

Defense expert here we come!!!!! And recruiting!!
It would have to be on-campus recruiting only, unless they move 1 or 2 of the current assistants into those positions.

I like the idea of bringing in a defensive specialist, but I think it would still require Fran to change practice priorities, because they are allotted a certain amount of practice time.

Back in the day, basketball had a head coach and an assistant. Period. Under that structure in 1970 with Ralph Miller in charge assisted by Dick Shultz (who was also the head baseball coach), Iowa had one of its best teams of all time. After going 14-0 in the BIG and averaging over 100 points per game (long before the 3-pointer arrived), the Hawkeyes had the talent, but not the luck, to win a national title.

Things have changed a bit in the last half century, but whether all these assistants are needed is a good question.

Jennie Fitzgerald stepped out of a coaching role because she disliked the recruiting game. With these 2 new roles not being able to recruit off campus it would appear Jennie's special assistant position would fill one of these new positions. Tania Davis has come back to Iowa City to replace Kathryn Reynolds in that existing role. The question is does Lisa fill the open spot even?

Wonder if they keep one of these spots for Kate Martin to step into an assistant role next year? She has said she wants to get into coaching, and Lisa has shown she’ll hire a former player with the right leadership/communication skills. Would love to see Kate stay in Iowa City.
