Today we start the Bowl Season off with 7 Games. AS I write this two of them are already finished.

Myrtle Beach Bowl
Georgia Southern and Davis Brin took on Ohio. Brin had 350 yards passing but wasnt enough to beat Ohio as they fell 41-21

Cricket Celebration Bowl

Howard took on Florida A&M in the bowl set for the HBCU's. Florida A&M edged out Howard 30-26

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl - ESPN (In Progress)

Jacksonville state, one of the two teams that made the transition from FCS earned a way in after a spot opened due to not enough FBS teams becoming bowl eligible. They are taking on Louisian Ragin Cajuns

Avocados from Mexico Cure Bowl - ESPNNEWS (In Progress)

Miami of Ohio is taking on the Mountaineers of Appalachian State.

Isleta New Mexico Bowl - ESPN - 4:45 p.m.

New Mexico state vs Fresno State

Starco Brands LA Bowl - ABC - 6:30 p.m.

UCLA vs Boise State

Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl - ESPN - 8:15 p.m.

California vs Texas Tech

Good grief!
It’s been pouring the entire game on real grass. 11 fumbles with 3:00 left.
App St up 13-9 over Miami Ohio.

The paint job on the field was atrocious to begin with but now with the rain it’s bad to the eyes.

The play is also a slog fest

Boise state is up on ucla halfway through the third 16-14

California and Texas tech is a few minutes in and Cal is up 7-0

The honeymoon for Helton is over in Statesboro with plenty of fans questioning the recruitment of Brin and third down play calling.

Sad what bowl games have become and college football in general. The teams these schools are putting on the field for these bowl games often bear little resemblance to the team which competing during the season due to the large number of players not participating. Miss the old days.

Absolutely. You don’t know what the team is going to look like. Unless you are in the CFP your team could be a shell of itself. Next year 8 more teams will be added to the playoff so less people will hold out of the game but for these early ones and the lesser bowls, still gonna have a lot of holdouts

Simple answer is that bowls still have their benefit for the charities they support and promote, but the biggest benefactor is to those who broadcast them. Those folks could care less about whose on the field, and quality of the product as long as the time slots are filled and the checks for the pre-sold subscriptions and advertising have been paid.

And this is the main thing that those who say there are too many bowl games don’t understand. The non-profit organizations in communities that host bowl games budget for these bowl donations and could really suffer without this funding.

a 32 team playoff would create 63 games for the chsrities to sponser

First, a 32 team playoff wouldn’t create 63 games unless you’re playing double elimination.

Second, it’s likely that the playoffs will eventually expand to 16 teams once the top 4 keep complaining about the lost revenue of the additional home game that teams 5-8 will get. They won’t go beyond that.

There is still plenty of room for several bowl games, with teams eager to play in them and fans willing to watch.

Personally, 16 teams is perfect IF every conference champ gets a nod and then the next 6 at-large. If ND wants an auto bid they need to join a conference and then actually win it. The $$$ would be astronomical.

That's a big 'IF' and probably why you capitalized it. I can't see a model where each of the G5 conference champions gets included no matter how big the field gets.

And Notre Dame will always have a seat at the table no matter what anybody thinks about it.

No expansion beyond what they have now should ever happen unless the G5s are included as bids for conference champion. 12 gives the P5 an out. Until now, the solitary seat has been something to placate the G5s to keep things out of a courtroom. The college football powers have been courting an antitrust lawsuit since all this stupid shuffling started back in '96. The reason it hasn't happened is ESPN throwing just enough money at G5s and a promise to be part of the conversation. A lawsuit could mean a loss in court and then all the $ disappears...but things are moving in that direction now. And a victory likely means CFP could be considered a for-profit business and NONE of the universities involved want that.
