LOL, yeah, I hope this didn't distract people too much from the 9 other posts on the boards this weekend.
ESPN is currently (Sunday evening) showing Tulsa as a 2.5 point favorite vs Rice.
That was their hardest remaining game. While the PAC12 has some quality in its swan song season, Oregon and Washington are the 2 best teams in the conference. Penix, IMO, is the best player in the country. His delivery is the best. USC is not great. They've got some really good players but their defense is especially bad for a team that is supposed to be really good and a good defense in Notre Dame just completely shut down everything SC wanted to do.
Right now my CFP participants would be:
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Washington
4. Florida St
Ohio State is smoke and mirrors and when they finally play someone worth a damn, their QB is going to get exposed. For OU, they're still too inconsistent for me. Ohio State has big chances to improve their resume and work their way into the mix (Penn St, Michigan). OU has 1 chance left in the Big XII Championship game and they better hope it's Texas they play again. Even with that, OU is going to need to some help with either Washington or Florida State losing.
Question for all, how many thought Mike Norvell was going to make it this far at Florida State after the 1st 2 seasons?
People should have known the frauds that they are by the Arizona St and Arizona scores alone.
They're not Notre Dame fans per se...they're fans of anyone playing USC. The previous week it was Arizona and the week before that, Arizona St.
Have you seen their basketball gym? That place is a dump.
I understand that there’s a lot of goodwill toward the guy around the fanbase but let’s not treat his tenure at Tulane like a glowing success. If you ask any Tulane fan they would tell you they weren’t particularly pleased with it other than the football stadium getting built.

Listen, we all know some coaching hires work and some don't. Rick probably had some constraints on hires like $ and some people he couldn't approach because they weren't going to be given concessions on getting players who the admissions staff questioned whether or not they would be able to be successful academically at Tulane. Let's not think they have anything much better than TU has it in that regard, except their academic rep is much higher than ours so it draws more scrutiny when they take a player that would have a hard time being successful at LSU as a football major. Rick didn't burn Tulane's athletic dept. to the ground like feckless Gragg has done here and at Northwestern (how does that guy even have a job still?)
Rick does a lot of stuff that's not flashy or splashy, but he's certainly solid and he certainly knows how to get the community involved in partnership with the university. He's done that everywhere he's been. Whether or not he's had busts at HC hires, it happens everywhere. I mean, OU hired Howard Schnellenberger and John Blake. UCONN hired Paul Pacqualoni to the chagrin of several key donors and athletic board members. Every school has busts at HC hires save for Kansas or Kentucky basketball, Notre Dame football. Hell Michigan had a series of busts at hiring football coaches after Lloyd Carr left (busts in terms of Michigan football and their expectation they win the B1G occasionally and beat Ohio State at least every other year in the big house. Texas, with unlimited resources, had several "busts" hired as HC's in football and basketball (personally I think Texas was being given negative juju karma for forcing out really good coaches like Mack Brown and Rick Barnes). The hiring process for coaches is not fool-proof. Guys can present themselves well and talk a good game but you never get a chance to see what make's coaches great until it's too late. IMO, great coaches are those who can adapt and adjust on the fly when presented a given situation. Kragthorpe was great at it. Self and Tubby were great at it. Monty and Wojcik not so much. And Burns was a disaster because he simply wasn't organized enough to lead a program. All things you can't really evaluate in an interview process.

Lots better than Gragg so don't complain too much.
A card board box filled with shredded paper would have been better than Gragg. I realized he was one dimensional in his 2nd year here when he avoided fans as much as he could.
Before Carson came, I thought that Dickson believed that with the situation being what
it was in the school administration, that little of real value was going to be approved,
and that he had slipped into some level of error avoidance in his attitude about what
could/should be accomplished....
Carson's arrival has been a multiple blessing for Rick...He has upgraded game amenities
for TU fans in all of the major sports with Carson's approval and genuine "attaboys",
and he has to feel actually appreciated and needed again....He has mentioned possibly
staying longer than he had planned....
It seems the change in circumstance has really allowed Rick to re-become who he
really is, and be a real catalyst in the rebirth of TU sports...

Oh, I'm aware... I was just amazed by the sheer number, and willingness to vocalize, that came out of the woodwork. It's Utah this week, and though I'm not necessarily a Utah fan I tend to root for them regardless of who their playing, with one exception of coursel I appreciate their approach to defense and straight up hard nosed football.
It wasn’t that long ago that folks considered Utah to be equal to, or below, Tulsa.
It’s not an accident we have folks like Carson and Dickson. It takes a consensus of university stakeholders. Their contributions are invaluable but their efforts would be fruitless without strong university governance. While the early returns are impressive, it will be years whether we can ascertain whether they were successful.

Very true, so there's certainly hope moving forward. They will certainly make the opposition earn every yard and will flat out fly to the football and hit someone.
Kyle Whittingham is damn good coach and one of the most underrated in the country, IMO.
Well SMU showed mercy and ran the clock down to a couple of seconds before they ran a play to bleed the clock.
Only pretty thing is gonna be the SMU pom squad at the Peppermint Rhino..
