It shows him in an influencer portal looking to make nil from it. What doesn't make sense?
I have been trying to find the article, without success, that I read a few weeks ago that 47% of portal players end up in a lower class (FCS or Juco). I think it was from 247.
Yeah there are several reports on this. The number of portal entrants (across all levels of college football) has grown every year but only about 40% find new homes and of those who do, close to 50% move down a classification.
Many of us, me included, have no idea what an "influencer portal" is.
I for one don't plan to ever have an instant gram account either.
It just means he is entering the portal as he can get an NIL deal somewhere else.
It is rather simple. An influencer is some chick or guy who manages to influence opinions with what they say on social media. That is a marketable entity that will gain advertising money, nil money, money in general, based on their level of influence. The portal is an attempt to market these persons marketability. Some people(not many, but some) make a ton of money this way.
That is very interesting info....doubtful those who enter the portal are aware of those stats.
They should be though. You would think coaches who lose players they don't want to lose, would inform them. Of course these are the ones less likely to end up dropping a level though.
100% correct it is becoming apparent that rash transfer decisions are having an almost equally negative impact on these kids as they are a positive one.
I've always found the idea of "micro influencers" funny... unless it's some stunning model type or a somebody extremely creative / funny.
Are people seriously going to their local eatery because a backup offensive lineman is telling them he thinks it's good? Are they buying the product that he sells? If he stopped playing football tomorrow, would anyone care what his opinion on generic product #1 was?
I get professional sports endorsements: "He's really cool....His team gets wins, he plays very well... I want to be like him and eat Campbell's Soup".
This sort of thing with roll players at obscure positions on mediocre teams thinking they're truly main characters just seems like another version of cryptocurrency to me.... the illusion of value. The real value these linemen have is simply in the value which a school is willing to use smokescreen NIL groups to pay them for a season or two of participation.

NIL has nothing to do with actual NIL… maybe it was supposed to be or maybe that was the thought behind it, but those who put this in motion should have had the foresight to realize how this would turn out.
Currently NIL is just a way to buy players from high schools or from other teams via the transfer portal.

Kinda weird since, according to Cayden McFarland, TU doesn’t have SEC-level talent…

Poor offensive line play is exactly what got Davis Brin beat up this season . Tulsa had the receivers, QB
and running backs to have a good year but the O-Line was a sieve with an abundance of mediocrity .
Absolutely. It was coaching malpractice to continue to play Brin and let him get beat up back there. Just absolutely pathetic on Montgomery's part.
