Good for him. Who is the coach there now? And yes, I did not read the link.

He seems to have a lot of people fooled. Will be interesting to see if he calls the plays, and how well the offense does. Hugh Freeze could make him the hall monitor all over again. I don't have a lot of confidence in Monty's play calling. One thing for certain, Hugh Freeze will manage the game better than Monty did here.

Dude, I am so sick of TU fans on twitter sucking off Montgomery and completely ignoring Wilson. Guys, he was 43-53 as our coach, we fired him, and he made a ton of money off us. I promise you he's not thinking about TU anymore. These pathetic pussie# on twitter CONSTANTLY wishing him well and how sad they are he's gone need to grow a sack and think about the future and about having a WINNING program again.

There are some osu fans complaining they didn’t hire him as their OC, no wonder those guys don’t beat OU more then they do , they have no idea what a good coach is !

You realize Monty wasn't the main playcaller at Baylor, and I wouldn't say his play calling at TU was good either.

You think he's a good coach down? Goodness.

Are you talking to me or are you talking about OSU fans ? I agree he was terrible , but OSU fans think he is this great coach , it’s really sad how far TU let Monty and Haith stick around to make people forget we were winning 8-11 games a year with Graham and Kragthorpe

A quick run through our new coachs twitter page doesnt really give the vibe that hes thinking about TU either

Really dumb comment. He's coaching them through their title game, which I have zero problem with.

You're probably one of the people slobbing all over Montgomery right now.

I am glad that he is gone but that doesnt mean we have to act like total douchebags about it. He wasnt a good fit here. He was here so long because of the administration and COVID had a big play in it. You dont want to wish him well then dont but that doesnt mean the rest should do it if they feel so compelled. He was a good guy he landed on his feet and did better than what our basketball coach did. As for Wilson, he isnt thinking of TU and he shouldnt because of Ohio State being in the playoff. I dont know why you got a massive woody for this guy as he has done nothing so far except a press conference. TBH that is all i expect from him right now. The new administration saw the writing on the wall and made the change we all were expecting.

I have a YUGE woody!

No, I understand what you're saying, but people need to quit talking about Montgomery now, because i ASSURE you he's forgotten about TU. It looks bad on us that we continue to talk about a guy who was 43-53 as a coach and looks like we don't know how to act after a coaching change. People get hired and fired all the time.

I am sure he has forgotten about Tulsa. Since this was announced today it is fresh in everyones feeds. We will all move on from him later today or tomorrow just like I havent thought of Haith since I found out he got the Memphis job except for when people bring it up on here. When Wilson actually does something here then I will start to care about him. Until then he is just someone out there doing what they want to do.

If you think Wilson isn't doing anything for TU right now then I think you've got it all wrong.

Absolutely false. Art Briles and Monty split play calling through the 2010 season at Baylor. Briles called the whole Texas Bowl Game in 2010 and after that relinquish all play calling to Monty. Monty implement his ideas to the system in the spring and has called it ever since. Baylor started shattering offensive records starting in 2011 when he took over.

Ok and best of luck to him. Really.

But this is the TU football board. Fine to mention it but I for one am more interested in what TU is doing. No offense intended.

Only stating facts, sorry i hit a nerve
Facts? Thinking that any coach coaching in the playoff is going to pay attention to his twitter is a weird worry by you.

What you should be worried about is him doing positive things like trying to get Presely to TU.

Spare us. If the head coach at TU had given up play calling too at Tulsa we might have broken records as well. I sure as heck know the head coach at Baylor from 2011 to 2014 controlled the clock and sideline better than the last 6 years at Tulsa. I know that the head coach at Baylor helped with the fundraising for new facilities and a new stadium. The head coach at Tulsa did none of that and complained when it wasn’t handed to him.

He’s your friend. We get it. It’s the past. Focus forward. The dreams of a Baylor Lite at Tulsa are over.

Tulsa is a great school, some say elite, with a football program that has enjoyed a rich history and has a bright future.

Without football do those other places even have schools? I figure if you can easily buy the T-shirt at any Walmart in the state the answer is likely no. Priorities….

There are many less than bright folks out there who want to spend their time talking about ex coaches and such and other irrelevant things.

The only interesting news today is Jones returning and our new campus visitors. I wonder how those visits went?

I agree with you that Briles was night and day different in game management from the sideline after giving over the play calling. All of us players during that transition saw a difference in Briles and his attention to that aspect. Monty wasn’t on the sidelines at Baylor he called it from the box. From my experience in coaching and you can ask others that the view from the Box is 4K vs SD on the sideline.

And you’re right Briles was a great fundraiser and the timing of him getting there and the current state of Baylor and their mindset financially was perfect. At Baylor all you needed was a lead gift of 10% to start construction on new facilities once Briles got there. And partnership between the city and university when he got there helped tremendously going forward. Lots of Baylor’s new facilities are because of the city and university exchanging various land areas that promoted the best view along the Brazos River and travelers on I35.

Monty and Briles are opposite in regards to certain behaviors. Briles would have left TU if he was in Montys Shoes after the 2016 season and almost 2 years at the job and not having the indoor that was promised.

Monty fundraised at Tulsa and in my opinion said yes to too many donors for lunches, meetings, and events. And through my experience witnessing it all as a player and coach I believe as a HC it’s harder man than ever to call plays on either side and be effective. Everyday HCs have at least 3-4 hours a day of Networking events/meetings that coordinators/assistants don’t have. From an efficient standpoint it is really tough. I think new HCs that were coordinators before and give up those duties fill the itch by taking over the the Punt team or going full Mack Brown CEO mode.

Unfortunately Tulsa was at that point in time financially not well and needed 100% funds pledged before construction can start. That killed the Indoor, and the new student athlete acdemic building connecting the Case Complex and the east stands. The student athlete academic center was going to start renovation's of the case and building position meeting rooms and increasing coach offices. The first attempt of the weight room reveatiom and bring the footpring to the side of the roads. All those had lead Quick’s and made signifiers headway. Fortunately the renovation of the locker room and the weight room came through. Both turn out great.

And hopefully the athletic department is still following the plan Kyle Grooms laid out in acquiring the land between 10th and 7th to the West of Columbia. The land size would be able to have a 100yd Indoor, 2 football practice fields. As well as a weight room and training room attached to the indoor. The complex would fit align where majority of sports are located on campus. Football would stay in the case locker room and use campus shuttles when practicing over there. Grooms was a big asset in my opinion when he moved over to the athletic department. He was awesome for us as the DFO.

I hadn't heard the plan to build stuff to the west of the drainage ditch which is essentially the area you are talking about right? It would be a weird location to put an IPF, IMO. I know there's a lot of other stuff over there and TU has been working with the city to revitalize the entire Kendall-Whittier area but that space for an IPF just seems weird....of course I thought building a tennis facility where the old KW Elementary sat was weird...mostly because Tri Beta used to have many a meeting and picnic in the park that was next to KW. That all turned out great for TU and the KW Elementary families.

As for Waco and Baylor...they have always had that symbiotic relationship. Waco pretty much wouldn't exist if not for Baylor. And Baylor has helped that area grow....a lot. I think Waco's official population when I worked at Baylor was right around 100k and now it's around 140k. That's some pretty nice growth in 25 years for a place without much industry or manufacturing. But the Briles effect is easy to see. McClane Stadium for one...where when I was there they played 5-6 miles from campus in the old stadium. It was fine for what it was and what Baylor football was at the time (terrible) and people went to games because...well there's not a whole lot of stuff to do in Waco on a Saturday.

Hopefully Wilson along with Rick and Brad have generated enough excitement about what can be that those projects and ideas can get back on track instead of the back burner.
