My annual post about torn ACLs. You can walk with a torn ACL. I tore mine playing intramural basketball at TU and walked back to my apt. afterwards. What you cannot do on a torn ACL no matter how hard you try....run, cut. The knee swells A LOT and frequently they can't do an MRI until they get the swelling down so they can have a clear picture. I will say from experience, if you feel that pop, you know. Also, any good AT will know right away from the bend test. They'll feel the difference between the normal roll motion to a more sliding one with a grind.

Seconded, torn both of mine playing in rec leagues, once you feel and hear the pop, you know. Was able to walk, even worked a labor intensive job afterwards up until the surgery, but you constantly have that unstable feeling. He will be back and ready to go next year though!

The unstable part sucked. I went to throw a softball on a torn ACL and my leg literally collapsed beneath me.
