If you were building and All-Time fantasy team using only TU players, what would yours look like?
Qb
Rb1
Rb2
Wr1
Wr2
Wr3
TE
Defense
Kicker

Qb - Rhome
Rb1 - Lacy
Rb2 - T Adams
Wr1 - Largent
Wr2 - D. Johnson
Wr3 - Pearson
TE - Mills
Defense - 2020
Kicker - Staurovsky (although I think we could have a new contender for #1 kicker after this season)

Narrowing this down to to 3 wide receivers was the hardest part for me. I could have easily went 6 or 7 deep.

The funny thing is I don't remember one guy in the secondary when I was in school. But I remember the big boys up front and Hammer White anchoring the backers. I think our front seven was so good in 91 that Gino the Jackass Toretta didn't have time to find his receivers.

Dennis Byrd was a stud! ( RIP) he was a great guy and got to hunt with him. Very solid human being

Theres about 30 dudes it hurt to leave off, but that’s my defense.

Might try to find a spot for Wes Hamilton at OG, he was taken in the 3rd round and played 9 seasons for the Vikings.

Might try to find a slot for Ray Rhodes, as he played RCB for 4 seasons with the Giants.

The question is are you talking true fantasy team or Best All Time TU players at their positions. Fantasywise it seems a no brainer that Brennan Marion would be on the list because of the insane yards per catch avg and the number of times he found the end zone on long plays (bonus points). And I think I'd put Clay in as RB2 since he was technically listed as an H-Back and would qualify for a RB spot. And remember, most fantasy systems combine the Defense with a S/T. You're looking at 2012 probably or 2005.

Dennis Hickey and Mike Haenszel were part of the DBs in '91 and '92. They were also damn good basketball players. James Blake was as well but I think he played sparingly in '92 and started at a spot in '93 for sure along with Willie Hill.

Great points. Lots of guys I considered. In the end, with the exception of Twilley and St Clair, I broke ties by asking myself “1. Did you see them live. 2. When you saw them live, was their individual performance against elite competition instrumental in the TU win?

Just because a guy was a good player at the pro level doesn’t mean he automatically gets a spot. Largent was a great great pro player but we had other WR since then who were better compared to him and compared to the rest of the contemporary competition. Marion was the best WR in the country when healthy even if others got the press and he worked “in a system”. Same with Twilley. Not true with Largent. I also considered coaches opinions by trying to remember guys that made all conference multiple years. Blackmon and Blackshire fit that category. Blackshire was first team all conference every year he was a starter iirc. That’s elite to me and belongs on the list over guys that have one good year and go on to the NFL and do big things. Jason was a great kicker with a long pro career. We’ve had several since that have done as well or better in helping their team win games. And in the end Stu Crum was a weapon at kicker. The guy had probably 10 kicks over 50 yards when that was unheard of. People bought tickets in part to come and watch him kick. We’ve had a lot of great kickers. He’s the only one I would want to see suit up and kick again. He gets the nod.

I’m surprised there has been no mention of Penn or Bitson.

My father said that Billy Anderson was the best QB that he ever watched play here, and he saw a bunch of them.
It was a tough list for sure. At times I maybe was more partial to players I may have seen play in person, than those that may have been more deserving.

Nothing against Dan, he was a classmate, but he was not the best wideout in Oklahoma when he was playing here. (Reasonable minds can disagree on that). Great great player, but not the best we’ve ever seen. And we’ve had several in the conversation for best in the country when they were playing.

Chris had a great NFL career, but only one solid season at Tulsa on a losing team where he was the focus of the offense. He might not have started on the 2008 team.

I’d still vote for him based on the Texas A&M and Southern Miss games alone.

He didn’t get much help from his QB after that season.

Bitson was phenomenal beyond most of our WR. If he had had a senior season and pro career minus that wreck, I think he would have been on a lot of fantasy lists.

This is a fun exercise. TU has a lot of players that are remembered and can be named as worth considering for a fantasy team.

What about Shawn Jackson?!?! I’ll never forget his Pick 6 at Notre Dame. I’m pretty certain I lost my voice screaming the entire 60-70 yards he returned that. It was such a crazy play. He was an athletic freak in a fat boy’s body.

You’d be surprised how many records he still holds. But in the end I had to put him, Nelson Coleman or Zaven in the middle. And Zaven changed games. Changed seasons even.

All 3 great MLBs but I agree if you’re picking only one of the 3 Zaven was the best.

I would’ve loved seeing those 3 together MY GOODNESS.
