American will be fine. Big 12 is done.

Best prediction right now is AAC picks up BU and TTU.

AAC = Baylor, KState, Iowa State and purple Baylor.
I think ISU goes to Big 10 with OSU (apparently I'm the only one). Kansas State might have to settle for MWC.

I'll add TCU as a possible addition to the AAC with TTU maybe going to the ACC instead.

Would all the Big 12 teams pick the AAC over the other conferences if the revised AAC was granted "autonomy" / power status? Why go with the Pac--12 or the Big-10 if you could be in a power conference and think (presumptuously) that you could dominate it immediately and win the playoff bid every year?

here’s a hint - ESPN is driving the bus and will determine “power” status.

Then I'm pulling for ESPN to crush what's left of the Big 12 and pull those selected few into the American. I want to see Tulsa in a "power" conference, playing GOOD opponents on a weekly basis. Want to see 25 to 30k butts in the seats every Saturday at Skelly. Would probably have an out of body experience watching Tulsa beat TCU at Skelly stadium.

I could see Iowa State going to the Big 10 especially since Iowa is there

What if KU goes to the Big 10 and the remain 7 Big 12 schools join with the AAC to for an 18 team super conference in football. The new league would be call the "Super 18"

The Big 10 is more likely to take Iowa State than Kansas although both have AAU status.

KU’s best hope is if they want to take 2 and keep it at an even number.

Why would they be more likely to take Iowa State when one of the Big 10’s main goals for expansion is reaching new television markets. Kansas allows them to reach the KC market while the Iowa market is already in the Big 10’s footprint with Iowa. Kansas also gives them a premier basketball brand to boost a top basketball conference

I’m guessing the Big10 is already in the KC market. KU football averaged just over 500k viewers per game last year. That would be last in the Big10. They add very little value in terms of TV revenue. Expansion is football driven.

Conference realignment is all about football, not the Olympic sports.

from reading outside comments about aac expansion. Nationally we have a very negative image. most comments suggest that the aac drop us. i guess that indicates the past 10 year of Tulsa athletics on and off the field sucks.

our administration needs to change this perception if we expect to survive.
Time to decide. Can we, will we do what is necessary be a viable D1 school

The commentary I've seen from pundits and talking heads when it comes to bringing the top 5 AAC teams into the Big 12 always include Tulsa as their 5th pick. Where are you seeing we have such a tarnished, negative image? We're "the little engine that could", David in a world of Goliaths... Kinda hard to hate us when we always punch above our weight class and win conference championships once every decade or so.

The Big 8 needs 8 teams to get to 16. No one will be joining a moribund conference with an unsustainable future.

I agree that it's moribund. It is now in hospice care until the inevitable transpires. Only question is when...

The AAC contract with ESPN is right at 1 Billion dollars for 12 years and pays out close to 7M per school. I wonder what a NEW AAC contract would look like. It would be pretty interesting. The Big 12 is going to take a hit no matter what happens, and it is going to be at least half unless they can get into a Pac-12 or Big 10.

Maybe we could be getting a nice windfall, but who the hell knows how they will structure the deal. Maybe, the new guys could get a bigger slice of what was being tossed around with OU and Texas.

If we add some folks, it will look nice.

how much is the big 12 tv contract worth without ou and texas?
Bowlsby said today Big12 revenues will drop to $23M per team without OU and Texas plus whatever they make from their 3rd tier rights. Generally a few million.

I think all remaining Big 12 schools are only and should only be looking for a way to get their school to the Big 10 or the PAC. They don’t care where any of the other conference schools end up.

There isn't a single remaining Big 12 school that wants to end up in the AAC.

If none of the remaining Big 12 schools get into the Big 10 or the PAC, I think they prefer to bring Houston, Central Florida, Memphis, Cincinnati, to the Big 12 and have 12 schools. Maybe they bring SMU and South Florida for 14 schools.
Don't see Tulsa getting an invite to an expanded Big 12. Our attendance is terrible and we can only cram about 30,000 people in the stadium.

ESPN may have other thoughts.
