Question about Cincinnati big wins if any

Who have they beaten that is a power 5 program and who have they beaten this year who is in the top 25 now? None that begs the question why are they ranked #7? Smu and army wins are not teams in the top 25 and this will keep them out of peach bowl even if they win out as p5 supporters decide the bowl games.

They are like BYU. They are clearly a strong team, but really haven’t beaten anyone. People that know football can look at their running game and DL and see they will be tough to beat. Their coach is well liked and connected which helps. So does their location. Put that same team in the same schedule and base them out of Las Cruces with Graham as coach and they would not have entered the poll until the 6 or 7th week. That’s the dirty part of this stuff. Meanwhile the school run by the head of the playoff committee suddenly vaults into the poll.

No. They basically pick who they want from the ranked, and send them where they want, unless it’s a Rose Bowl type situation with a contract between conferences. Given the lack of teams on the West Coast and the pecking order this year, I’ve thought a miracle season for TU would be the Fiesta Bowl against odd man out Florida, though the Peach Bowl against Florida could be possible. The SEC would want to avoid that. So would TV.

1. All displaced conference champions and the highest‐ranked champion from a non‐contract conference, as ranked by the committee, will participate in selected other bowl games and will be assigned to those games by the committee. If berths in the selected other bowl games remain available after those teams have been identified, the highest‐ranked other teams, as ranked by the committee, will fill those berths in rank order.
   
   (Note: A “displaced conference champion” is a champion of a contract conference that does not qualify for the playoff in a year when its contract bowl hosts a semifinal game.)
2. The committee shall create the best matchups in these bowl games in light of the following considerations. None of these considerations shall affect the ranking of teams. Also, none of these considerations will be controlling in determining the assignment of teams to available bowl games.
   • The committee will use geography as a consideration in the pairing of teams and assigning them to available bowl games.
   • The committee will attempt to avoid regular‐season rematches when assigning teams to bowls.
   • To benefit fans and student‐athletes, the committee will attempt to avoid assigning a team, or conference, or the highest‐ranked champion of a non‐contract conference, to the same bowl game repeatedly.
   • The committee will consider regular‐season head‐to‐head results when assigning teams to bowls.
   • The committee will consider conference championships when assigning teams to bowls.

4. When not hosting semifinals, the Orange, Rose and Sugar bowls (the “contract bowls”) will make their own pairings outside the CFP arrangement. Generally, they will take the champion of their contracted conference; if that champion qualifies for the playoff, the bowl will then choose a replacement from that conference.
   
   Orange Bowl: ACC vs. SEC or Big Ten*
   Rose Bowl: Big Ten vs. Pac‐12
   Sugar Bowl: SEC vs. Big 12
   • In non‐semifinal years, the following will inform the Orange Bowl’s selection of the opponent for the ACC Champion or next highest ranked ACC team not in the playoff:
     • After the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl have chosen, the highest ranked available non‐playoff, non‐champion of the SEC or Big Ten.
     • Over the eight years, a minimum of three SEC and three Big Ten appearances must occur, and a maximum of two Notre Dame appearances can occur.

This would suggest fairness, but the caveats about tie-ins add confusion.

So thinking it through, Coastal would have to crack the top 10 followed by a Tulsa no lower than 11. Or visa versa. Or, of course, if Cincinnati wins out and Coastal creeps up a few spots.

Our best shot is for Coastal to stumble and TU to Mega impress. The other scenarios involving Tulsa seem far flung.

Army is independent, that would handicap them as far as the peach bowl is concerned.

So would we. Florida, IMO, looks like they could beat anybody, anyplace, anytime. They would murder us.

And Iowa isn't all that good TBH. So I've revised my B1G power rankings and really only Ohio State and Indiana are in the conversation. Everyone else is mediocre at best currently. Wisconsin could be really good but they have a crap ton of injuries at key positions that have made their offense really 1 dimensional. Indiana with Penix was a top 10 team. With Tuttle, not as much and not as dangerous but they are still solid. Iowa is the best of the rest along with Northwestern and everyone else in the conference is borderline mediocre but trending to not good.

SEC- Bama and Florida but one of them will lose the conference championship game. Still a proponent that if you don't win your conference championship, you don't get into the playoff...don't care how good you are or how fluky the loss was in the game. Waiting for all the Texas A&M fans clamoring to be included in the CFP after an inevitable Notre Dame/Clemson loss and a loss by Florida. Sorry A&M, if you can't beat Bama in the regular season to earn your chance for an SEC Championship, you don't deserve to be in the CFP.

Big XII- OU and Iowa State are good but not better than anyone in the top 10 right now. I trust Iowa State's defense more than I trust OU's defense. I also think Rattler can be rattled too. OU is not as dynamic or multiple on offense as they have been in the pass and Rattler makes a lot of FR mistakes forcing throws into tight windows.

PAC 10/12/14- this conference is a joke and should be dropped behind the AAC in the P5/P6 grouping.

ACC- Clemson and everyone else. Of course this year you have to include Notre Dame b/c of the COVID thing. The real dilemma for the CFP will be when Clemson beats Notre Dame in the ACC Championship game. I don't believe in doubling up from a conference if you can't win the conference championship game.

There's a legit path for Cincinnati to the CFP but it includes beating us twice...convincingly. And no one on here wants to see that happen.

You will never see a non P5 in the College Playoffs as it is set right now with four teams....

As the playoffs expand and it will because of money in a few years then possibly a non P5 might get in occasionally. This happens when the conferences renegotiate their deals with ESPN, ABC, NBC, etc. in a few years.
