I've never seen anything like this...widespread demands among the fan base calling for Mike Holder's immediate resignation. I would say running well over 90 percent.

Most thought they would get a Greg Marshall type coach but Holder has saved them a lot of money they can use on wrestling.

I know of very few people who thought OSU would get a Marshall. What they did think is they would get a solid mid-major guy much in the mold of the Underwood hire. Most fans now realize that Holder's reputation for being difficult to work with is widespread in the coaching ranks and his presence is toxic when it comes to hiring an established coach.

I think the only similarity is that they were both in the predecessor's staff. JP was old and a TU guy (why he got the job). Boynton is young and has no ties to OSU other than being an assistant coach for one year. He better win quick because OSU fans will not show up to the arena after this to watch bad basketball.

It came down to Boynton & Self, Buddy Self, asst. coach at Poteau High School. They felt Boynton was a better fit, since he already lives in Stillwater.

If Pickens would have bankrolled it, they could have made Self an offer that would have been hard to refuse.

They offered Self a boatload of $ in 2008 and he had no interest. Marshall would never have been interested in OSU. I think there would be quite a few smaller college guys with established success that would have been interested. Surprised they did not make an effort for Kermit Davis, Dan Hurley or the like.

this seems like a "we don't care to make the best hire" hire from Holder. Still shocked that no sitting head coach from a super-successful mid-major was not even interviewed. I think Haisten got it right - convenient and affordable hire, one of the most damning comments from the World I've ever seen.

Very sad tonight for a great KU team. But the NCAA is a one-great-game tourney.

Hard to compare to Few, He was Gonzaga assistant like 10 years before getting his gig. This hire may end of being a home run but it is certainly a head scratcher.

Kim Anderson was available... Great D-II coach. All he did was moan about how it was so hard after the mess he said he inherited. Heck, given another 10 years, he might have turned things around. But I guess Pitt State outbid them!

It's so fascinating how situations are in the eye of the beholder. Kim did moan a lot about that. Martin was named HC, he's already attracted big time recruits to the school, and Mizzou fans think they're headed to the tournament next fall. Despite the terrible job Kim did for 3 years.

Anderson took over a bad situation, both on the floor and academically and made it WORSE.

Interestingly, Gottlieb was on the DP Show today and talked some about the process. He was initially under the impression that Holder wanted him but the rest of the committee did not and he thought it initially was because they wanted someone with more experience behind the bench. Gottlieb said he thought that meant they were going to go with someone like Tom Crean or Tim Jankovich and that he didn't have a resume that could compare with those guys. But then they hired Boynton.

Interestingly enough, Gottlieb said his brother, Miles Simon, would have been part of his staff. I don't know anything about Gottlieb's brother, but Miles Simon was one of the best guards I've ever seen in college.

Im glad they went cheap on a coach, the return to Stoolwater will be that much funner. IF and that is a BIG IF we have improved the way we should have, I would love to see us run them out of their own building

Just received a commitment from the #68 player in the country and has confirmed official visits from numerous top 50 national kids beginning this week. I hated the hire but if he can coach a lick it looks like he has a chance to be successful given the talent he appears to be attracting.

The gap between the Big XII & the American is much smaller in basketball than football. We should be able to competitively recruit against OSU & other Big XII schools in basketball. The key word is should.

I think OU is going to uptick with that All American kid they grabbed last season. We'll never recruit with Kansas but there's no shame in that. I think Baylor / TCU's level of success is an achievable goal with the right recruiters in toe.

If they get a couple star recruits here and we pony up the cash to keep them, there shouldn't be a reason for them to leave.
