NCAA continues to discuss changes to selection criteria

Pomeroy, Sagarin, and Palm all met with the NCAA yesterday to discuss the selection process. They pushed back against pressure from coaches to create one all-inclusive metric and emphasized that selection should continue to be focus on results metrics rather than predictive metrics. These are all good things imo.

My guess is that they revise the team sheets in the near future to better weight road games and they incorporate the predictive metrics more heavily in the seeding process after selection is done.

Just not BPI. It shouldn't be an arbitrary ranking that favors big schools at the beginning of the season.

Pomeroy also blogged about it. Reading between the lines, my guess is that the committee uses a slightly-tweaked version of RPI and just tries to get smarter about how they use it.

"While it’s easy to mock the committee for not grasping the nuance of resume vs. skill, many people that think they want a results-based approach struggle with the issue as well. In the coming weeks, when a commentator says a certain team “looks” like they belong in the tournament, they are implying that the record isn’t the only thing that matters.
