How much improvement can be expected on offense for TU in 2016?

The Golden Hurricane offense was very impressive in the first year under head coach Philip Montgomery. TU finished 13th nationally with 507.4 yards per game and fielded the nation’s leading receiver and No. 7 passer, averaging a very solid 37.2 points per game. As Tulsa lost that top receiver, Keyarris Garrett, to the NFL’s Carolina Panthers and is down a quality running back (Ramadi Warren) due to academics, how much improvement on offense can be expected in year two of the Montgomery Era?

A little worried about short yardage situations. This offense tends to schedule 3 and 1s and 3 and 2s with the personnel used last season. At least that's my impression. I don't have a stat breakdown.

Last year, Langer was there to stuff it for 2.1 yards. We don't really have a big body back in the first 4 RBs. It will be interesting to see if Javon Thomas or some of the bigger, younger guys get reps.

On first and second down, the bottom line is that we have an experienced senior QB that has had four years invested in him. There had better be significant improvement from the supporting cast or this season will be a wasted opportunity.

Simon is tiny though. He had that good drive against Memphis, but he's not a bowling ball.

You're right that he's short in stature... but he does weigh 200 lb's at only 5'8". I think Bowling Ball would describe him perfectly actually. Plus, Monty seems to like him. He seemed to talk him up more than Thomas in the interview with Larry about the RB's.

Simon will probably get some short yardage opportunities...he's a tough runner. I think the hope is that Thomas will become that guy. He just needs to prove that he can get tough yards.

I thought both Javon Thomas and Jarion Anderson from Texarkana were 2 of the better recruits signed by the previous staff. Thomas was listed at 6'2 207 out of high school, and must've put on a few lbs since. He's only a redshirt freshman, but he has good enough size for short yardage situations.

Simon can take a hit and keep things moving forward. Low pad level. If our OL can get any push in those situations we should keep things moving.

I think it took him a little longer to get used to the physical nature of the college level. That's why I say coaches probably want to see him show he can go out and get those tough yards in a game.

And I agree with @TU_BLA that Simon keeps churning forward after initial contact. He's an aggressive runner.
