The fans need you,The basketball program needs you.

VJ King played 12 minutes...... 0 Pts 0 Reb 0 Ast 0 Stl 0 Blk 0/1FG
In big games like today.... the Junior, 5-star player, has to contribute more then that.
We have all seen the skills that he has. He needs to be more consistently good.

I think we as fans should give him time to come around. He's had 3 different coaches in 3 years, and I love Padgett but none of these guys received much development as players last season. I'm just happy when the lights come on like what appears to have happened with Nwora recently. I'm hoping King, with Mack's help, will eventually find his game and his place on the team. I just think, we're not 10 games into the year yet and give King a little time.

Does anyone ever feel like VJ needs to get a little like Montrez Harrell used to be. Trez used to come into every game pissed off at the world and ready to hurt someone. He played every possession like that as well. I just think VJ needs to develop that attitude and we would see a world of difference.

Vj doesn’t have that killer instinct

I say it once a year about various players.
Lock them in a gym with Rodney or Ellis and let them decide when theyre ready.

VJ is a junior, not a freshman. No excuses.

I have been really cheering for this young man since he got here. But the more I watch him the more he frustrates the heck out of me. Folks have been talking about the number of coaches he's had ,etc. Come on now - stop it . We all know at this point he should be able to give us 15-20 all day. I thought this was the year that the light bulb would have come on considering reports of what conditioning and game skills he claimed to have worked on during the off season and with the sprinkles of hope seen from last season but the room is still dark. His lack of handles and cement infused footwork does not help matters along with that inconsistent shot. He keeps standing around the 3 point arc waiting for something to do. Freaking move around for crying out loud.He is going to have to work on that footwork as a couple times now he has got called for arm hooking if he doesn't travel initially when receiving the ball . I'm in no position to question his desire, heart, etc as I'm sure in his mind he wants to be great like everyone else but the reality that applies to all of us in some fashion is that " Some folks have it, and some don't" and that is just how the cookie crumbles. It's a shame, it really is as he could really help carry us thru those low periods when things get stagnant on offense, or could be the dagger on a good momentum swing but he seems to be becoming a liability more than anything else when he is out there. Again I'm baffled.

The best way to explain King is the game moves too fast for him on the offensive end. He is either overthinking everything or can't mentally process the game. He passes up a wide open three to take a challenged two point shot. He doesn't have the quickness to beat a like defender nor the handling skills create his own shot. Even on wide open threes he is rushing his shots resulting in air balls.

The thing I’ve noticed is that when he is the game the ball movement slows. He doesn’t make quick decisions with the ball, either passing or dribbling. I think he needs to focus on moving without the ball to get some open shots.

Not exactly stats of a team captain.

He's very indecisive for sure. I hope Mack can implement something that helps him get into the flow of the game when he enters. We need this guy to become bigger than what he is right now. Back door type stuff might be the only thing that gets him moving to the rack...without the ball that is

Hasn't improved and his minutes are down so far compared to last year.

3 pt shot not there so far either.

Clock is ticking.

IIRC, King's first 2 seasons, he was a pretty good spot up 3 point shooter. Yet now even that is gone as he shoots airballs. I still think he'll come up big in a key game or two before all is said and done. At least I hope so.

Yeah, he doesn’t know if he’s a 3 pt shooter or a slasher. The thing I liked more about his last game was he had 6 rebounds and 4 assists. We didn’t have anyone with more than 3 assists against IU. He also needs to spot Sutton some minutes. He’s playing too many minutes and getting tired at the end of the game. Doesn’t have the same energy as the first part of the game.

He plays good against D2 caliber teams.

Until he shows up against a good team I’ll keep saying the same thing, don’t care if it’s monotonous or not. Kid doesn’t play with any bit of intensity in games that matter.

I admit this is just my thoughts but it sure looks like VJ is a non-factor and a transfer candidate.

But it's a long season and there are injuries and light bulbs can go off unexpectedly.

He could also play a key role in a big win.

It sure feels like he's just falling further behind others.

It says a lot when the game is closely contested and he gets 0 minutes in the 2nd half...

So with all this talk about VJ, if you were Mack, what would you do to get him going? Or, is it just not going to happen?

I think when you’re in the middle of your season, it’s difficult to find enough time for individual workouts unless you assign one of the assistants. His focus has to be on the team, not one individual player. Hell each player has their own strengths and weaknesses. The off season is generally focused on individual workouts. Now if I was VJ I would spend every minute I could in the gym or watching video but who’s to say he’s not.

Sad but true. His confidence is shattered and there is no fixing it now. He's done.

VJ is redefining the term " digress " Holy smokes. Real talk- Might be time for him to start considering a fresh start elsewhere while there still may be some interest. I hate to say that as I have pulled for this kid since day one hoping he could become someone we could count on but watching him now is just too painful. As soon as he gets the ball you turn to the side , cover your face and cringe " Oh No "

Hell, I think we can add Perry to the list of guys with zero confidence. The idea today looked like CM wanted to keep CC off the ball. After about 4 turnovers from Perry, that idea was trashed..
Perry is the key. He has to play better. He was better last season as a sub.

I was hoping that when Sutton got into a little bit of foul trouble, King would have this wondrous story coming off the bench and being a hero. It didn’t and the game got worse.
