I would consider myself a "red neck" and am proud of that and agree with your statement ..avid hunter and fisherman and love my firearms. Redneck and white trash are two entirely different things. I'm thinking more "white trash" in this conv...and I'm only kidding anyhow. I know not all UK fans are like that, that s silly. Just like I don't wear flat bills, have praying hands tattooed on my shoulder, drink crown royal, etc etc..
The problem fellow Card fans, is we are a tainted program. Hence any coach worth thier salt will not come here right now, because the young basketball recruits are avoiding us like the "black plague" ! Don't be so naive and thank they are lined up to play in this mess. What has happen to our basketball program is almost as bad as the death penalty.
But that’s just it. Crean knew that we had issues, but for him, it was more important to get back on that horse, so to speak, after failing at IU. As many said, U of L is still a good place to go and if you’re any kind of a good coach, you believe you can right the ship. He’s not going to want to start back at a smaller school again.
My point exactly, he is unemployed and no other major school wants him. Of course he would jump at the offer from us. But who wants a has been?
Internet is fine TYVM. Just rattling your chain. One of the few on here who hasn't. My issue is more with Crean. I used to like the guy but after failing so badly @ IU, he would be a lateral move at best. At least CDP has upside. Crean has peaked.
Would you be ok with Buzz ? Who would you prefer ? Don't say Donovan or Stevens, I mean realistically who do you guys see us hiring ?
It's curious the way people are so confident how one coach compares to another when they don't know which coaches were cheating. Kinda like batting practice on steroids...
I would prefer Buzz over Crean. As I have said b4, I prefer to keep my powder dry until things shake out. Which appears to be no time soon.
without knowing which coach might be implicated, couldn't you just put a clause in a new coach's contract stipulating that if they were found to have been involved in any NCAA violations then you can terminate their contract immediately with no payment?? Of course you would be hoping that any coach that would sign that sort of contract would be fairly confident that he had nothing shady in his past
That's the approach Tyra has been beating his drum about. It's fine as far as easily getting yourself out of a contract. That unfortunately is the scope of his thinking, like, you can make a mistake as long as you have an exit plan legally.
So, you know about the hos and the FBI... Now, suppose you hire a guy like Chris Mack and find out he's dirty. How's that gonna play nationally? U of L back in the swamp again? You think a contract is the limit of your concerns? I don't think so. We've used all of our mulligans.
Again, that's Tyra's approach to business. It's all technical and numbers with no feel at all for the brand, identity, growth prospects, intangibles, etc. All you do is cost cut, streamline, and manage your bottom line. He's clueless about what U of L faces...

The FBI investigation is an on-going all encompassing issue in college basketball. Who knows what/when/how/if the NCAA ever outright punishes anyone because of that. As far as the Powell scandal, that's pretty much over. We're on probation and have some minor scholarship and visit reductions but we have no idea what the fallout from the FBI investigation is going to occur if even occurs at all - this is the NCAA we're talking about.
Louisville's brand is tainted and they really, really need to get an AD and a President in place ASAP...But its still Louisville. Its still a borderline blueblood program thats light years better than places like Xavier, Arizona State, Virginia Tech and nearly every D1 program but a handful.
UL simply needs to target a young coach, give them a 10 year contract and give them time to build and recruit. There are a number of coaches that would jump at the opportunity to come to UL even with everything thats happened recently.
I have been around this program for a long time. We could fall either way now, meaning we could bounce back or we could slide into mediocrity. I am greatly concerned that we no longer have any energy in our leadership that will properly rebuild us with the right coach and right decisions in other areas. In Tyra, I see a guy putting on a show without the drive and ability to maintain what Jurich put together. Not blaming him but the job to him seems more like a novelty than anything. He doesn't need the job and is not ambitious. I see even less reason to be optimistic when I look at Postel. Don't fool yourself. We are on the edge of a cliff right now and the ground beneath us is shaky. I see nothing at this point that makes me optimistic that we are going to get back on track any time soon.
I'd go as far as saying we have slipped over the edge and are hanging on to sapling growing out of the side of the cliff(think Wile E. Coyote). I personally think we are doomed. VERY telling how Bevin never mentioned the UofL stuff while campaigning then BOOM its an immediate priority when taking office. Gotta get his stench azz out before anything positive can happen I think.
Bevin did not create the mess and there is no way he wanted to get involved in it because it does him no good politically to do so. I doubt he had any idea of the problems at U of L when he was running for office.
Disagrees, HIS board is straining/dividing the fan base and it does him a TON of good politically. He could win re-election by a landslide by saying he brought UofL to its knees.
The friends I went through school with voted for Bevin and this is not something that helps him politically. He won't get any new votes from it.
Might happen and that is why this was not an issue he really wanted to deal with. But Ramsey had to go as did a board that was completely negligent in their duties.
I doubt few people outside of Jefferson County and most in Jefferson County know or care about this issue.
You mean the issue in the newspaper everyday and now on billboards?...
