Let's cut to the chase. Our bigs are mediocre at best, horrible at worst. They do not look one bit better than when the season ended last year. I would love to eat crow but I'm willing to bet my wallet I won't have to eat the first bite.

Bellarmine's post players were mostly in the 6'5" to 6'7" range and we were out scored in the post 26-22. Continually we received entry passes in the block with the defense sealed only to kick the ball back out. Are you kidding me!

If you can't dominate a D-II post player that's woefully undersized, you can't help against top-25 competition. And for those who thinks Matz is going to help someday, ain't happening! Unless he's hurt, if you can't get on the floor tonight your coach ain't loving your game.

I say go small, start King, and live with the growing pains. It will pay dividends at season's end.

Have to say I agree on Matz . If he has a role to play apparently it will be in the 2017-2018 season.
Way too early to make many prognostications but I am concerned about the 5 spot.

This is going to sound really weird, but I'm so fully engaged on college football right now that I completely forgot we had a basketball game last night.

Plenty more basketball games left to play. I'll catch up once the football season starts winding down more.

Go CARDS!!!

Completely understand and you are not in the minority. I know the game last night was only an exhibition but it seemed more like an intrasquad game more than anything. Not much excitement as the players are introduced carried over throughout the game. Of course when you get up by 40 points it does begin to get ho hum, but the Cards didn't finish with the same intensity. Hopefully it gets better when the season starts!

The bigs will be fine. CRP explained they play better against taller players in his last pc because shorter players are normally quicker. You could see that the speed of the Bellarmine bigs caused problems on their cuts to the basket. This may very well be the best overall shooting team he has had and he will build around that. I am calling a 2nd place finish in the conference this year with a minimum elite 8.

there is no f-ing way Montrezl gets stopped on the block by a 5 foot guy, and definitly no way Trezl lays up a 1 foot finger roll anywhere near the paint.

Our bigs stink like a rotten animal, and by the looks of it being year 3 with these guys, we will be lucky to make it to the NIT.

I understand some concern but slow it down a bit. You will achieve nothing but self misery by going into full "sky is falling" mode right now before the season even starts.

you can pin that comment to the top.
our bigs are not hungry. they are just there going through the motions, seemingly lost and uncoached. Hopefully they change my opinion, but as of today, 5 foot tall guys are taking their lunch and none of them are pissed about it.
coaching does so much, but at the end of the day a player has to have some WANT TO. some intestinal fortatude. I hope someone on this teams gets some for christmas.

It's obvious from the original post that I'm less than enthused about the bigs. But beasley brings up something I hadn't thought about. Not only are our bigs mediocre but they seem to have no fire in their belly! None of them have a mean streak, none want to jam the ball down anyone's throat, none seem interested in intimidating an opponent. Hell, were not starting a choir, if these guys played football they'd take away their helmet and hand them some pom-poms and a skirt.

I don't recall seeing Nova jamming the ball down many people's throats last year.

CRP mentioned that if the Cards play like they did the 1st half they would win many games. He said Mango was not in shape right now and chasing those little guys around was tough on the bigs.

I didnt know you had to be smarter than a coach to see a 5 foot bellermine knight over powering a 7 foot center on the university of Louisville basketball team.
but thank you for putting me in my place.
rivals can pull the plug on the web service because you have solved all of the message board chatter forever. great job!
you are smarter than rivals.

I didnt see any team over power Nova last season. especially a d3 team with a 5 foot tall center.

I realize you're saying 5 foot for the argument, but be truthful. Bellarmine has 1 player on their roster under 6 foot tall, and surprise, he is a guard. I didn't see any of the game because frankly, I forgot all about it, but it's not only premature, it's foolish to start screaming the sky is falling before the season even starts. You're better than that Beasley. I know you are. You're a good poster who adds a ton of good discussion to this site.

If you didnt even see the game, how can you object to those who saw our centers get abused?

Not objecting at all. I respect everyone's right to speak their mind. Just wanted a bit of truth brought into the conversation unless the 5 foot 9 point guard was playing center for the Knights. If he was, then I stand corrected.

MCHS, you're correct Nova was not dunking all over people as you stated. But, slow down and read the original post. I said "go small, start King..." etc. If CRP goes that route we would be a very similar team to what Nova was last season. I just think that's our best bet.

I've never claimed to be John Wooden but I've followed college basketball for a long time. I know what I see and our bigs are just not very good. I know the bigs can continue to improve throughout the season, but their lack of off season improvement is super frustrating.

I'm willing to bet that Anas and Ray have not gained 15 pounds combined! That in itself makes me question their desire, work ethic, and willingness to improve and help the team.

Normally when the lineup you so greatly wish gets on the floor it's not as good as you had hoped it be. We've all played this game that's why Tom pays 1 man to coach the team.
