I don't know what the hell the NFL is doing scheduling a Vikings game during a Hawkeyes... but whatev
obviously... absolutely huge game today
hopefully the Hawkeyes have refound their groove and they come in to Jersey Mike's Arena and grab the bull by the horns from the get go

I fear that Iowa may be turning a corner. The offense looks so much better with a healthy Murray and Connor. Forcing some turnovers defensively today too

Kris Murray finally sees the bench after over 90 minutes of gameplay
probably a lot more than 90

Interesting to see Kingsbury logging minutes over Dix there. Other than Dix giving up that tough mid-range jumper (which was well contested) I didn’t see him do anything wrong?

Nice first half for the Hawks all around

I’ll add that Sandfort has greatly improved at picking his shots and shooting within the flow of the offense. A strong finish to the year by him would mean the world for this team

Every made basket in the second half by Iowa has been a three. Only three minutes left in the game.

Yes, the refs missed some calls, but overall it seemed from here as though it was one of the better officiated games in a while. Anyway, Sandfort led a great team effort to a huge road win. Rutgers, you may recall, beat #1 Purdue in West Lafayette a few games ago, and followed that up by holding Maryland to 17 points in the first half.

The Hawkeyes fended off every Rutgers run, rebounded, played tough defense, and with Sandfort leading the way, made some shots. That's a winning combination. Now Iowa needs to hold home court and win the next three. Then the season will take on a whole new, positive tone.

Congrats to everyone who played today. Excellent win.

BTW: Indiana lost again today . . . to Northwestern . . . by one. I wonder what excuse Woodson has for choking this one away . . . LOL @ Indiana, a team that can't win the close ones but whose coach always has an excuse.

Three headed monster: Kris, Filip, P. Sandfort. This is what I was hoping for at the beginning of the year. Tony is maybe struggling more than expected (could be physical/legs)…if Sandfort can continue his shooting a high percentage this team can do some damage.

Very impressive road win today. I was surprised at the way we came out and controlled the game the entire time. Handled them even when they turnt up the defensive intensity. Can't find enough superlatives for today, but would like them to clean up the TO's.
I think P Mac stepping aside for a time is really helping the team already. They look higher energy on defense and seem to have a bit more flow offensively. Wonder when P Mac will return.

I can't recall a Fran team playing a better game defensively from start to finish. The team seemed to be on the same page with switches and knew who the shooters were. Offensively I thought this was the best ball movement since the early non-conference games. Hopefully Sandfort keeps it going and Connor is good for Thursday.

I don’t really understand what they are doing with their zone. It almost reminds me of the famed amoeba defense Tarkanian’s teams played. The zone was very effective vs Indiana and Rutgers. Rotations were really good.

I’m a big fan of Tark. He got guys to play together offensively and defensively that other programs didn’t think could-inner city guys, playground legends. You don’t win a national championship unless they come together and Tark was the leader.

I agree with you about Iowa’s zone-sometimes 2-3, sometimes 3-2, with matchup tendencies. Maybe follow cutters/drivers like man? Who knows, but it’s working!

Just curious... how is this not a foul ?
Oh, as you know, it's a foul. It just wasn't called. And that's indisputable. How three refs miss something like that, Rebraca getting hit in the head by both legs, is confounding. So it really wasn't such a great hurdle, BTN. Great hurdlers don't smack into the hurdles. And I have to admit, I did run the low hurdles back in the day, although not all that well, and I may still have some of those bruises.

Hummel, who I really like, did admit on TV that the "hurdle" should have been a foul, although he focused more on the "athleticism" than the foul. To me, Rebraca should have been credited for faking the guy out of his jock. That seems like a better, more athletic basketball play than being totally faked out and smacking your legs into an opponent's head. But maybe that's just me.

That actually looked like they made it a soccer play on advantage no call, but then he missed the bunny. It looked bad live, but looked worse on the slow motion replay.

Sandfort was unconscious for a stretch there. Who is the psychologist they had work with him? The "heat check" 3 he swished on the turnaround 3 when he wasn't fully squared up was enough to know the bucket must have looked a mile wide to him.

from what I understand.. the "psychologist" Sandfort is working with is Matt Gatens
