Question about Parking/Tailgating around Kinnick

Taking my boys to their first Iowa game this year for the UMass night game.

Any suggestions on parking? We have a 22" Blackstone so we aren't opposed to tailgating with them a little. Just to knock out basic questions maybe asked of me....

-We will be in a Jeep not an RV or Camper
-Not opposed to walking 6-12 blocks
-Not opposed to paying but don't want to get raped either
-Kids are young so I prefer the debauchery level to be mild

I was a die hard park at the mall and take the train guy but I'm pretty clueless what to do now. Thanks for any suggestions.

There is still a crunch for parking close to Kinnick as much of the Dental lot is closed this year and next due to the build of a parking ramp.

Obviously, if you want to park close you’ll pay for it and in most cases will need to buy a pass from someone in advance. Paying $50-$75 seems to be the norm.

Cheaper priced parking are places like Finkbine golf course and the free Hancher lot. Both would require walking further but Hancher offers bus rides.

Thank you. Me and the other half made it to a game last year but we stayed in Coralville and Uber'd early in the morning to the Holiday Inn where my old man was staying. Kind of had a cheat code built in on that one.

With young kids, the Hancher free lot and free ride to Kinnick is hard to beat. Easy in, easy out.

I remember back in the day Melrose and Melrose was the happening spot and could get parking for like $5 but as everything things went up to $20 to $30 now for crammed parking… but to be around all your Hawkeye friends and family it’s worth the weight in gold

Last year, I parked at an elementary school parking lot southwest of Kinnick. Maybe 15 dollars and proceeds went to their field trip expenses. Well lit, supervised, concrete surface. The walk to Kinnick showcased the tailgating festivities and got us into the fall football mood. Easy to get out of as no one was parked behind us.

First Mennonite Church off of Myrtle Ave is always a good option, huge grassy area, close walk

How long do you have to wait after a game to be able to actually board to go back? Sometimes with the train if you waited until the end and went out you would be there for a good 45 minutes waiting to board one.

I honestly don't know. I have used it in decades, but I don't recall it being a terrible wait.

But, even if you have to wait, when you get to your car it's a pretty quick trip to get out of IC. You might get to your car quicker getting to your car closer to the stadium, but then it can take a while getting anywhere.

The "free" part is nice. I haven't been to a game in 10 years, but it was $35 at the time to park close to the stadium. Might be $50 now?

Anyone taking 380 north it will be a mess with construction between North Liberty and Cedar Rapids. Been tore up all summer and it won't be done.

I'm also going to the UMass game with my family. It'll be my first game. For the Hancher lot, how soon does it fill up before game time? The game starts at 6:30.
