OT: Milk smell in car

Weird topic, I know, but getting dunkin the other day, bunch of half and half spilled in car
Cleaned it up but didn't air out windows, entire car smells like rotten milk

Tried lysol, opening windows, etc.
No dice

Anyone have any other ideas?

Uggh. Daughter spilled a yogurt a couple of years ago and soaked into carpet prior to her telling us. Tried everything. Took it to car wash and they had a spray for it. Guy at car wash said if that doesn’t work. Put coffee grounds on carpet for a couple of days then vacuum up. (That’s not a joke).

But isn't that expensive? Shouldn't he just deal with it, so he can give the money to an 18 yr. old to play football? You know, if everyone just gave up a cup of coffee a day, we could get that 5 star QB.

Coffee grounds are quite effective and absorbing and neutralizing odors. I know someone who uses coffee grounds as potpourri in their bathrooms.

Fortunately, I was down there this weekend, and I was able to speak with Mike directly.

He assured me it will not happen again, and there will be significant improvement.

Coffee grounds worked for me when I accidentally left some ground turkey in my RV fridge when it wasn’t running.
Still took some time though.

I would also try poof spray. Available at pet stores and Walmart. Eliminates odors entirely.

Just try baking soda as that is the only thing we have on hand. Hopefully it works.

Had a friend in college who had a mouse get loose in his car he had gotten at the pet store to feed his snake. Eventually it died in the vents or something and the car smelled like *** and death.

milk has casein in it and its like glue - a reason people use enzymes.
Might have to pull the carpet in places

Might look like a mess , but will smelt sweet .
If you don't like that advice
Try baking soda on the spot and leave overnight
Might want to mix vinegar and baking soda and wetting a rag to wash the spot

I think you have to pinpoint where the smell is coming from with your nose. Could there be an opened container of half and half that fell under the seat? I would probably try one of the scent neutralizer sprays that stores sell, but it has to be sprayed in the right spot. They supposed to kill the bacteria that is making the smell.

Yes same thing happened in my mother's car in garage. Mouse living in it and then died somewhere under hood...smelled a long time

I had an entire smoothie spill in my car a few months ago. That got to be pretty bad. Stinky. I used some upholstery cleaner and a lot of scrubbing with a hard bristled brush. It took a few days of cleaning. And some airing out with the windows down. Thankfully it wasn't super hot Georgia weather yet or it would have been even much worse.

I'm serious, not trying to be a wise *** here, but what is the difference between activated and deactivated charcoal? I mean we give our animals charcoal straight from the wood stoves. The Chickens use it in the dust bath to kill mites, our pigs and horses eat it to improve digestion and get some nutrients. I think this would be considered activated charcoal?

Activated charcoal is superheated to create the pores that make it an effective absorbent and filter. Regular charcoal = no dice for that purpose.

Highly recommend 2 household items to be applied in this order:

1. Dawn Power Wash: spray on soiled area, scrub/swirl into surface. Goal here is to separate the invader from the fibers. Allow to dry then vacuum.
2. Oxi Clean spray: spray on soiled area, scrub/swirl into surface. Goal here is to further separate the invader plus neutralize the odors. Allow to dry then vacuum.

Depending on the violence of the invader, a second round may be needed. Good luck!
