Europe doesn't want to develop players for the NCAA

Looks like players world wide are learning their value and it's pissing people off.. these clubs want to shut down their youth programs all together. Will be interesting to watch this all play out over the next decade. It would be easier if NCAA basketball didn't generate so much revenue for so many different entities. Could just have a NBA development league on each continent or something that paid these guys..but college basketball has to be preserved even if it's basically professional basketball..

Looks like 2 clubs from traditional powerhouse soccer clubs are only referenced as well as the Spanish league authority are cited. There’s plenty of young European talent to go around who would rather get a chance at an American university helping development and now receiving a piece of the money pie. Europe is a lot bigger than just Real and Barca and Spain as evidenced by our own commits from non traditional basketball powerhouses. Don’t let the big clubs fool you

American University teams are essentially the equivalent to European Clubs. The idea that the local townspeople or “state” people support/pay for an athletic club with different sports (Barcelona has mens soccer, womens soccer, mens and womens basketball, etc) … how is that any different than state university college sports? Alabama U sports, Nebraska etc. with the state fan support is essentially the same thing as these european clubs

Based on that article Euro clubs are looking for ways to slow down the exodus of players by creating “clearance” guidelines before said player can just bolt to the US for a school offer.

This is about money. Euro clubs/academies usually get some sort of compensation in exchange for letting/trading a player out. Right now seems like the power is in the hands of Euro basketball players after oftentimes getting developed by that club since a young age. Just like Luka Doncic was from his teens in Spain.

Euro clubs are not liking the fact that they’re becoming the minors for US colleges.

Stopping tbe flow of young euro pros like RU signing the older euro kid this season, is good for USA basketball. It’s not possible for most USA HS kids to compete with older euros already playing pro ball
