This thread is out of control, and both you guys are putting thoughts/words to my posts that are not there. I never said anything bad about Schiano in the process, unless you consider my saying Gleeson whiffed when he locked on Gavin criticism of Schiano. That is all.

Been saying that all along, but you guys want to turn it into a lot more and extrapolate a lot of fringe theories from my and other's posts. We disagree on Snyder being "mishandled." And that's OK. That's what makes a message board. You are not going to convince me otherwise. Woopty doo about GW "giving up" his senior year. And buying the farm on a single pass is foolish, and I doubt that was a deciding factor.

I've wasted more time in this thread than I wanted to. Have fun, and please don't extrapolate any more from my posts other than my thinking Snyder did not get a fair shot by Gleeson.

l’m confused -I said none of these things. This came up because you responded to someone else’s negative post about Schiano being bad at assessing QB talent (or whiffing on it - don’t remember the exact comments) stating that Snyder is a good example to support whatever was said. based on his having been in a mini-camp.

Perhaps you hadn’t read the string you responded to that closely but I do not think what you posted supports the negative context of what that poster you responded to was saying. Thats what I responded to. Synder got progressively better throughout his career. Good for him. The year he left us to lead Buffalo to a 7-6 season. The fact that 4 years after he played for us he made a mini camp after a nice year in the MAC doesn’t mean anything about RU recruiting. It’s nothing like when Savage moved on and became a superstar, for instance. That’s the one and only appropriate example that would support what you responded to.

Ok - so actually KS - I had to go back and I see you actually responded directly to someone who was being sarcastic. This one:

Don't you know that after leaving Rutgers , every player that leaves proves to be a major talent lost and destined to be the next Heisman winner .
Ajani is just the latest future College HOF member that would have made RU the next National Champion if he stayed.

You said this would actually mean Greg did screw up with his handling of Cole Synder in comparison to this. In an 8 page string initially driven by the guy defending you - this dude:

F the practice BS. This is the same BS posted around here for years while the Qb have been under utilized/developed for years. Most other top college FB teams give their #2 Qbs a chance and some time in games to see what they can do. Never here. Not with this 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense.

The LITTLE bit we saw of him in games he didn't miss the throws, made decent decisions, and ran well. WHAT we ACTUALLY got to see of him because God forbid he looked better than the dude we made the deals with. (and yeah that goes ALL the way back to Cubit and his dad and Chad Scwenk. Schiano has NEVER had a clue about Qb management and development in his what near 20 years here as a D and former linebacker at Bucknell).

Your a good poster, but I’m afraid what’s really out of control are the pages and pages even before your post about (as Plum said) a back up QB who barely saw the floor at Rutgers! Why throw a weak example in there of one of the few back ups that left RU and accomplished anything at all into their fire?

First of all thank you for the kind words. Very nice of you. I wasn't really reacting to the Cole Snyder stuff. Not my intent per se.

Ok, now I'll crawl back into my summer hole.

Passing under Flood was arguably as good as it’s ever been at Rutger. Flood’s offense (which was really just a continuation of Schiano 1.0) required a competent full back to succeed. Michael Burton more than fit that bill. Ash was simply a moron. He hired a coordinator who tried to execute his system with Flood’s players in year one.
It started that way.. but by the time he left.. no. He had Nova, in his final year, 2014, throw 27.5 attempts to 37.8 rushes per game. And it went down from there with laviano and rettig in Flood's final year 2015. Did he leave Ash any talent at QB or WR? Ash went with an inexperienced OC.. some underling WR coach from Houston.. At least Schiano tried an OC from OK State (who, like Mehringer, and probably like Flood at Texas now, was likely an OC in name only as the head coach was the real OC).

Whatever it was.. GS is getting WR talent now and if we are attempting to balance the O and make it attractive to QB and WR and even TEs. Wimsatt was a failure in that regard.. perhaps we ran too much then BECAUSE he couldn't be counted on to throw and we only had dropback types backing him up.. and that would have meant throwing out all those RPOs in favor of a more traditional offense.

It is tough to be the kind of program that finds it hard to compete for recruits with our competition and to be held to a different standard in terms of answering.. why should I choose Rutgers.. the top programs have money and reputation to offer.. go play for a winner. Maybe we can have.. its a fun offense that will provide a lot of action for you.... the defense can say that.

But just look at basketball.. what a fun offense.. right? Did not equal success. It is a very tough spot.

Lehigh senior quarterback Chad Schwenk suffered a fractured wrist of his throwing hand on Saturday at Division I-A UConn that will sideline him for the rest of the season.

Schwenk, who had thrown for 1095 yards with ten touchdowns through the first five games, will be replaced in the starting lineup by junior Kyle Keating.
Schwenk ends his Lehigh playing career having completed 233-of-425 passes (55%) for 2,713 career yards. He threw 21 touchdown passes at Lehigh, and 17 interceptions. Earlier this season, Schwenk became the first Lehigh quarterback since Phil Stambaugh in 1999 to have multiple 300+ yard games in a season when he threw for 302 yards against Holy Cross and 301 in a win at Princeton.<

Yeah I wasn’t intending to analyze your post at all - Knight Shift replied directly to your post offering Cole Snyder as an example of RU screwing up. Your post about how some of our fans think every RU back up leaving us to become the next Heisman candidate.

KS - isn’t the kind of fan who bashes everything Schiano and Greg do. That response was just tangled up with the larger discussion from some of our fans about what a mistake this is and on and on. Every once in a while, a player leaves team A and gets better down the road at team B.

Yeah - the list goes on. Look - there are plenty of things to criticize Flood on, and his recruiting pipeline was a definite concern.

But again, no matter what criticisms are thrown out there, that 2016 offense simply had no business being as bad as it was.

Honestly - the D too. There was no reason for it to be worse than 2015. Flood had lost his whole damn backfield. Yes - the D sucked. But there are different levels of ineptitude. 78-0 is on Ash and his staff.

I already showed how Flood shifted it to run-first by what plays we called.. passing attempts vs rushes. It was well balanced for 3 seasons then in seaon four, still with Nova at QB, reduced pass attempts.

So, what was Flood's actual preference?

Also, while Nova eventually had a coulpe good season, sticking with him when he effed up way worse than Sitkowski did at times... what did that do to QB recruiting? What happened to WR recruiting?

Flood does not get a pass (pun intended).

One name: Drew Mehringer.

Yes - 100%. He chose to implement his system with a bunch of guys recruited for pro style. It failed miserably. Ash is the head coach and allowed it to happen. That train wreck was entirely on them.

It’s true Flood didn’t give Ash much of a recruiting pipeline to build on either, but by all counts, we should’ve been mediocre - not laughing stock bad. It was the worst start Ash could’ve had on both sides of the field. The 2015 D was terrible, but we did get a lot of good returning players valuable experience. 2016 should’ve seen at least a slight improvement and instead got worse where we made national news on that 78-0 loss.

Ash reminded me of those mid level manager corporate guys that companies bring in to "break it down" in order to build it back up. And I have never seen one of those work.
At least with Flood, he was actually a pretty good gameday coach. Ash didn't even have that going for him. And while I know he came in from the outside, and from that view, things must have looked like everything and everyone was out of control. But he took no time to get to know any of the players and decided he just wanted to play anyone but a Flood guy. He should have sought out the players to lean on as he made the transition. I mention Nelson, Miller, Muller all of the time. and though he played them, he had a horrible OL coach and if he could have replaced any of the 3, he would have. Hicks couldn't get a sniff and even Martin was being pushed out. Laviano had a pretty good 2015 but Ash wanted nothing to do with him either.
Same with a bunch of Floods defensive guys as well.

As bad as Nova was, and I thought he was aiight, there is no was anyone can compare Nova to Sitkowski and his guaranteed multiple passes into double/ triple coverage.

None of this is wrong - player development under Ash sucked from day one. But in my opinion, the biggest blunder came in the completely neglect of the fullback slot. I couldn’t even tell you who replaced Michael Burton in that role in 2015, but whoever it was did a servicable job. That position was arguably the unheralded glue that kept Flood’s offense rolling and steadied the OL play.

Yeah I get it - in modern day football that position is obsolete. But Schiano 1.0 passed along the baton and Flood continued the build there. If there were such a thing, Rutgers would’ve been fullback U. Because we did a great job of using that position to enhance the OL. Heck - we developed walk on Burton into a solid NFL player with a lengthy career.

Okay - maybe if your Ash, you don’t recruit more fullbacks in the future and gradually shift to your own style. But pulling the plug on everything in year 1 was a complete disaster.

But he had hydration and a 24 hour snack bar…if he came in during NIL and the portal- 100% sure we would have had 80-90% turnover that first year but he wouldn’t have been able to replace them with anyone better.

The two major hires that happened after GS 1.0 were Ash and Julie H. Some would say Flood but I 100% believe that while he may not have been great, he would have been much better if Julie was not the AD...And I know he would not have brought in as many "thugs"...

But Julie and Ash crushed this program. OK - Eddie with MBB is up there too

Bingo! He wanted nothing to do with the players he inherited. The way he completely ignored Martin and Hicks was criminal.

Who's still playing and going into his 11th season. Plus he's got a Super Bowl ring!

Oh I think Ash claimed that title hands down.

I was stunned after Schiano came back in to hear that there were NJ HS coaches who had never had a visit during Ash's tenure. 4 years? Wow!

Some would say Flood but I 100% believe that while he may not have been great, he would have been much better if Julie was not the AD.

Pernetti had his back and was his sounding board. I think losing him completely undercut Flood, plus I heard from the get-go JH wanted to replace him. Even before the season got started.

Kind of off-topic from the thread (but then again half of the posts are) but speaking of fullbacks, I always thought Jack Corcoran was going to be a much bigger factor than he was. I don't recall if it was injury or misuse, but thought he was going to be a stud for us, following up on Leonard's success.

Why would we continue with a system and players that by your own admission weren't much to build on?

The problem wasn't trying to change the offense in 2016.
It was Ash getting scared in 2017 and reverting back and placating the offense for the "not much to build on" players.

Because those were the players we had on
the roster in 2016. You have to adapt the playbook to give your team the best chance to win. When you start to recruit your own kids you gradually shift the approach. At least that’s what good coaches do. Ash didn’t know what he was doing.

We made national news with how bad we were in 2016 and nearly put Ruth Chris or whatever steakhouse it was that ran that Michigan Promo out of business. It was a horrible way to start a new tenure. Worst imaginable and he has absolutely nobody to blame for that other than himself.

Because you’re supposed to adjust to your personnel to give them the best chance to compete, then recruit your new players to your system. A HC or an OC with a half of brain could’ve ran lots of 20 or 12 personnel with those players. Heck, could’ve had at least 1500 yards rushing with those two running backs. But Ash went Ash on them while Fickell went Fickell and went to the BCS in Cincinnati

As bad as Nova was, and I thought he was aiight, there is no was anyone can compare Nova to Sitkowski and his guaranteed multiple passes into double/ triple coverage.
Oh my.. you are so wrong. Nova was saved by playmaking WRs like Caroo on many occasions. I recalled a TD to Caroo into double coverage where Caroo went up for a contested catch and won it and the two defenders fell down as he went onto the endzone. Long TD pass for Nova but could have been an INT easily.

But that kind of thing wasn't where the comparison came to mind.. it was throwing an INT on a ball that went backwards because he was prone about to hit the flat of his back and tried to throw it. Nova was very shy about contact, never stepped into a throw to deliver a complete and get hit... closest was an important TD pass late in a game where he was able to stiff arm a rusher while backing up to deliver a pass. Sitkowski threw some head-scratching-how-did-he-not-see-that-guy INTs... but he got hammered while trying to stand in and deliver the pass. He just had little help and little time... but, yeah, he wasn't the answer either.

Except that while Nova may have had Sit’s 18 Int, he would have also had 20 TD… Sit was 3…repeat, 3, TD and 18 Int..,

You are missing a huge part here
With better talent around him Sit may have been on par with Nova. Sit had some of the worst talent in Rutgers history and nova had some of the best

Artur should never have been in the lineup. He was so raw that he needed a redshirt and then some. It was criminal that McNulty and Ash put him out there for as long as they did.

You really couldn’t have watched the two of them play..,just an eyeball test alone told you the difference.
Most Nova INT’s were because he just thought he could make every throw. Sit’s, we’re just bad.

It is what it is . McMahon was better than any Schiano QB but he’s not considered an all time great like teel

It's amazing how little some understand about the QB position and what they are watching on the field. Nova had a strong understanding of the position as a true freshman, Art was still trying to figure things out and everything was moving too fast for him.
