Rory caught cheating. Was he doing the same at Augusta?

Happens quite often. These guys hit the sweet spot so often the face wears down making it too springing.

Rory always seems to get a pass. This has happened a few times to him and he didn't do the press conferences after both rounds. People like to knock Koepka for his persona, but Rory is generally a d*ck as well. Comes across as very unlikeable.

I heard that as well, but why does my club fitter & every article I read tell me the opposite (and why I need to upgrade my driver - well I do know why, but). We don't hit it nearly enough as these guys. If that was true everyone would be playing old drivers a long time.

I was told wearing out the heel side of the driver doesn’t help 😀.

Can’t imagine Scotty losing this one.

ETA 32 on the back 9 is sick. It doesn’t even feel like he is playing his A game

Good chance to win, unless he gets arrested. As for Rory, without his illegal driver he is s'ing the bed.

Rory used the same driver last year and it was legal.
Maybe who he didn't talk to at the Masters made his driver bad 😀

>“The USGA conducts these tests pretty much every week out here on professional golf, and they test it across all aspects of the face of the driver. Drivers fail all the time. Every single week, somebody’s driver fails,” PGA Tour winner and current Golf Channel commentator Johnson Wagner told SiriusXM radio.

“It is by no fault of the player. They don’t know how to do it, it is a sophisticated testing system. And when you’re a player like Rory McIlroy that hits the ball as hard as he does, the face naturally thins out… But when you’re hitting it like Rory McIlroy with his speed, it thins out a little quicker.”

McIlroy has been using his gamer driver since 2024. It hasn’t been illegally modified and simply changed over time due to continued use.<

Rory = Cheater
No illegal driver, no leaderboard. Pretty simple. :)

Club wear and tear from use made it ineligible for play, was said by a Golf Channel commentator who know what the game entails.
New club needs time to get used to in order for best performance , common sense 🤔
Even simpler 😇

Glad you agree that a Golf Channel commentator who has been a member of the PGA earning his tour card in 2007 and has played in the US Open, Masters and PGA along with having won the Houston Open, Mayakoba Golf Classic and Sony Open is worth listening to when it comes to golf equipment and how clubs can wear down making them illegal for tournament play.
I can't say about how you feel, but I don't think a duffer like I was knows more than a Golf Channel commentator that holds a PGA card and played on the tour .
Wagner might not have been a top tour player or good enough to be mentioned with the best, but he played the game at the top level and should be considered better informed that the average duffer or a amateur follower of the game , like me..

As for you, only you know how much your golf equipment expertise is compared to the Golf Channel commentator I mentioned as my source .

A commentator on the Golf Channel supporting a PGA star is just like a commentator on the NFL Channel supporting the NFL. LOL!

Sorry, you need to do better.

No I call it as I see it, you might call it as you want it.
Doing better is how one sees things and I'm doing quite well.
Hope your drivers are legal, but it seems like you feel you know enough to keep then that way
Good for you.
I'm not an expert so I can't expect to consider myself more knowledgeable than a pro athlete when it comes to the game they played or equipment used to play it..

Sometimes being contradicted with the facts triggers people and they feel the need to make professionals sound like they are uninformed because what they comment doesn't agree with what some hope the answer was.
Hope that's a better way to put it 🤔 😇 😁

Some drama until the LIV guys cratered. Congrats to Scotty.
BDeC and Rahm made good runs at the Masters and PGA, but both pulled a Rory at the wrong time. Regardless, another good major for BDeC. He will likely win one of the remaining two this season.

They do random testing on the clubs. Rory has not been selected until now. Driver probably has been non-conforming for a while.

Also I forgot about this but Rory paid an Uber driver to bring the no -conforming driver to Bay Hill earlier this year. He knows this and that why he didn’t speak to the press after all 4 rounds at the PGA. Rory really turning into a bad guy.

Congrats to Scottie. As @jtung230 said, he was just going through the motions and didn’t really need to bring his A game. As typical for Scottie he still had to bogey 18. 😃

Another point. Please don’t ever have Quail Hollow host another major. Just another boring tour course. Keep the PGA at the courses like Baltusrol and the other former US Open courses.

Tell that to BD and Rahm that the green mile is just another course.

Apparently Scotty’s driver was also flagged. But Rory is the more juicy target for the story.

I saw that as well. I think Rory is the story because he didn’t speak to the press all 4 days. That is definitely not normal from the latest major winner. Not a good look.

Interesting they both use TaylorMade. I assume it could be something with the carbon face. I also saw a quote from Scottie or Xander that they should test all drivers. Not just the 50. That makes sense but may not be practical. It does seem weird that Rory’s driver had not been tested in a year since they test 50 each time. Not sure how often they test.

Drivers can go from conforming to non-conforming due to use.

There is nothing nefarious going on here. Scotty Scheffler was also tested and said that he's been using that driver for a year and the face just got thin and had to go to his backup. And the fact Rory had his driver driven over to a tournament after leaving it home isn't strange at all. Guys are very particular about their clubs. Back in college I worked at a country club in Indiana and one of the teaching pros there had caddied for a bit on the PGA Tour. Guys could be weird with clubs. He said one guy had a favorite wedge and he traveled with that separately while the rest of his clubs where shipped normally. So Rory wanting his driver and it being close enough to get uber'd over is not exactly some scandal here.

See my post above. Not saying anything nefarious other than these guys assume a driver is non-conforming but still play it. I don’t blame them. I would play a club I loved until told otherwise as well.

I think Rory declined interviews because he felt like somebody rolled him under the bus on the equipment issue. Clearly there were others but he got singled out. That’s the price of fame I guess.

Perhaps way OT but golf is golf

Led by Holmdel, NJ's Megha Ganne, who went 20 holes to defeat the #1 Amateur in the world, FSU's Lottie Wold, Defending NCAA champ Stanford will now face the B1G's Northwestern in the Women's NCAA Championship final.

The B1G has had a great NCAA tourney. 8 teams made the Regionals, with 7 advancing to the 30 team championship. Along with NW, Oregon and USC made it thru Medal Play and into the Great 8 Match Play with Oregon making it to the Semi's before losing 3-2 to NW.

It just got better for the B1G................

Northwestern upset #1 Stanford 3 matches to 2 to win the Women's Golf National Championship.

While USC, UCLA, and Washington all won championships, NW is the 2nd B1G member to win the championship after Purdue in 2010.

LIV bots on X are hinting at some big news coming, rumors of another player about to jump ship.

Granted, they make these claims all the time and most of the time it's nothing.

Jumping to LIV? I would be shocked if so. I would expect some current LIV (ex. Brooks, Bryson, Cam, Rahm and even Gooch) trying their best to get back to the PGA behind the scenes.

How about Chris Gotterup? 67 yesterday, 65 today. Currently sits in second at 8-under. Unlikely he’ll stay there with the afternoon guys just getting started, but he’ll be positioned nicely for the weekend.

Yup. His approach shots got away from him a bit on the 2nd 9 BUT he played really well around the green by great touch on chips and making some putts, turning potential Bogeys into Pars.

Latest on the LIV front is that it's being reported that contract renewals will not have the big upfront bonuses the first deals did, which isn't all that surprising. PIF has slowly been tightening the expenses on LIV as it's bleeding cash like no one's business so there was no chance they'd pay big bonuses to guys already on LIV. But it raises the question of that some of the bigger names might do.

DJ is the first one who has a contract up but I can't see him going back to the PGA Tour. He doesn't seem to like the grind and spends a lot of time home now. But next year, DeChambeau and Koepka are up for renewals.

Turns out Rory is skipping the Memorial. Not a big deal. Not calling Jack and explaining why he is skipping it is a big deal.
Yeah Rory seems to be missing the boat quite a bit these days. Skipping media at the PGA, snubbing Jack with no call. Weird behavior for a guy who could be basking in the Master win/career grand slam and be the darling of the sport.
