Cheap is our middle name

Cheap? Why would you want to be higher?

We’re paying too much.
Ideally we would be dead last on this list.
There isn’t any honor in paying more for an FCS win.

If we spend less on the FCS game that’s more money towards a field house.
Every penny counts.

Good god..why is Ohio St playing Grambling St? At least they get a million to ruin their season. And we get to see Michael Vick coach.

Their Band maybe?

I know TBDBITL thinks they’re the best but the some of the traditional HBC bands (Grambling, Southern, Florida A&M) are worth sticking around at halftime to see and listen to.

And we know the real reason is for the easy W.

Just seems like that is low hanging fruit for even an OSU. The band is always an attraction and their stadium is always full, but bet even OSU fans would rather play a MAC team than a low tier FCS team.

Correct there is no benefit to paying top dollar for tomato can games. But when it gets combined with weak NIL and weak facilities it makes recruiting more difficult.

On the list of items impacting football recruiting - what FCS team we play - is approximately number 2,873,737.

I would guess recruits couldn't even name who the prior seasons FCS gsme was against if given 10 guesses.

Recruits don’t care what FCS team we play. But When you do everything cheaply it adversely affects recruiting.

Could it be that it is worth more money to take a beating from Ohio St. instead of Rutgers. Pain and suffering settlement is higher.

Dear god! Really? This is the hill you want to die on?
We should pay for a Howard type game...we know that we are not going to stress on the game, enjoy the band and the girls, give a good University some good cash and take a win. Just enjoy an early tailgate with friends and make it more like a backyard BBQ...then, play a ehhh mid level team. Again, take a known win, pay a little more but add a win and then we play a G5 team that we know we are going to beat and maybe make it a local team or a team in an area we want to recruit in. Take the win and have 3 wins count.
who cares what we may spend to play any of the teams.

The money numbers we see all the time and some cry about, are all accounting $$$ and who know if anything we do moves the needle on costs one way or another.

We take 3 wins- hopefully play a fun game like Howard and then dig deep into the crazy 9 games that follow.

I've said this for a while now...

Play a HBC in the MEAC or SWAC, tie it into Paul Robeson ("The Paul Robeson Classic") and make sure they bring their band. That's part of the deal.

OSU also usually plays a smaller public in-state university like Toledo or Miami for good money. Always thought it was to help subsidize their program.

I did not know Miami is public.

Wisky does it in MBB (and maybe WBB too?) with other schools in the University of Wisconsin system.

I wouldn't mind if we did that for the first scrimmage in MBB with a NJAC school.

My grandfather was the 6'1" starting center on the 1915 Miami basketball team.

We actually opened the season against R-Newark in 2015. Jordan's last year. They gave us a game, as did everyone that year.

You should root for another team. Rutgers is not going to change. The fans are not going to change.

And many of us are happy.

You seem to complain and cry everyday.

Time for you to quit wasting your time and move on. Either enjoy Rutgers sports as it is or find another team to root for.

I’ve been here a lot longer than you, so you can STFU and sit down.

Like him or not, we do all know Al is a superfan…
He has become insufferabke since NIL. On the bball boards it's non stop as well.

Rutgers and its fan base is what is. Either enjoy it or don't but non stop complaining and calling out and talking down to the fanbase everyday is not cool.

Without taking an exhaustive look at the list in the OP, I was curious what might be the closest and farthest matchups among these paycheck games and it looks like they are as follows:

Closest: Idaho at Washingon State. Moscow ID to Pullman WA is only 8 miles (less than 10 minute drive). You often can't even get from one side of Rutgers' campus to another in that time, particularly during rush hour. For a $625K paycheck, that's a handsome amount of compensation per mile paid by WSU.

Farthest: Lafayette at Oregon State. Easton PA to Corvallis OR is approx. 2,915 miles. That's a long trip to schlep across the country for $500K. OSU is getting a great deal per mile.
