Vientos is probably the guy in the lineup I least like to see up in a run producing spot with men on base. I don't care if it's bases loaded and 2 outs or 2nd and 3rd with no outs. My confidence level is low. I'm always thinking 0-2 and then a swing at a pitch a foot outside.

It was awful at the time and I called it. I said Zack Scott because you regurgitated what he said about the trade as well. Everyone knew deGrom was not coming back that season and trading a first round draft pick prospect was an overpay for half a season of a hitter like Baez. It also proves the point that Baez did but well and we were still no where near a playoff spot.

Trading prospects this year is a lot different. We're in a much better place and we will have to deal to get some help.
It was a pathetic trade that Zak Scott made and I said so as well.

Other teams were getting stars for mid level prospects at the deadline.

PCA was not a mid level prospect. He was a very high prospect

Scott got taken advantage of given his inexperience and his hunger to make a big deal to make a name for himself

I'm listening to WFAN yesterday and a fan of the other team was calling in and blasting the Met fans in regard to the Soto signing and how we acted like it was the 2nd coming. And how fitting that Soto has sucked so far. Made me look a little more into Soto...I think we all agree that he has started slow but his "slow" is actually an .820 OPS and on target for 120+ runs 40+ doubles and near 25 HR. Imagine this team when he gets hot.
BTW- same caller was saying that all the same Met fans were so happy when Cole went down for the year. BTW- I don't think I heard anyone say anything like that.

In regard to Vientos...I know we have been a bit disappointed in him but he is actually hitting very well over the past 2 weeks.
Pete and Lindor both on MVP level right now. Will be interesting to see how Lindor finishes. We all know he usually starts very slow and picks it up...I have always wanted to see him have a year where he starts fast.

What sucks- We may get ROY award again for Acuna but even if Pete/Lindor have historic monster years- someone else will win MVP over them.

It is so much fun being able to watch this team this year...

The Mets are 5-5 in their last 10. The last two losses were by 1 run and the other 3 were Stanek meltdowns. So they really weren't too far off from being 10-0. The point being eventhough they are technically playing .500 ball of late, they still look like they will be fine in the long run. Just need the injury bug in the pen to settle down.

Numbers are close but most likely off by a game or 2

Mets are something like 13-8 / 12-7 ……

In those 7/8 losses.
6 are 1 run and one 2 run loss (OR)
7 1 run losses and one 2 run loss

Just need to come thru better in late game situations in rbi opportunities. When games are close 1 run affairs. Like the games they lost in the Arizona series at home and in getting swept by the Cards in that doubleheader. It's one thing to come thru with an rbi when the score is 8-1. But can you get it done when it's the 8th inning in a 3-2 game and you come to the plate with the bases loaded and 1 out. It doesn't even always require a hit. Just not striking out or hitting a popup or a double play ball.

Marte is not batting cleanup. He is batting fourth. In today's game, batting cleanup is no longer a thing.
But even batting 4th is questionable. I know there aren't a ton of great options, but Marte has about the worst stat line on the team. 36 years old. Hasn't had a legit good season since 22.

Let's hope we get back to the timely hitting. BTW- Nimmo may be the most frustrating Met to watch hit. You know he has all the tools but where he used to be an on base machine, he has been getting worse at OBP each year.

On another more fun note...who would have thought that in NY, there are two guys chasing triple crowns 1/4 of the way into the season.
Pete has the BA(WTF) and RBI's and only a couple of HR off the lead. Across town- Judge is having what may have the chance to be the greatest season in the modern era.

Nimmo has the most hard hit balls(95+) in baseball this year tied with Alonso at 63. He's also running a .204 BABIP. His expected numbers are much higher the way he's been hitting the ball. To say he has been super unlucky to this point is an understatement.

Marte is cooked. I have no idea why they play him but if they must they need to drop him down to 8th.

Nimmo may need a rest any way. Hyperextended his knee on a play last night. Not sure if this was addressed in post game presser.

On Nimmo, "super unlucky . . . is an understatement"? It's not possible for that to be an understatement. I agree, though, that he's been unlucky. It should even out over time. On the other hand, I'm also concerned that his effort in the last 2-3 years to be more aggressive early in the count hasn't benefitted him as much as he hoped. Maybe it will ultimately.

On Marte, he hasn't looked good or even passable this year. But teams don't make decisions quickly on a veteran like him, particularly a highly paid one. He's been getting time to right himself. That time, however, will run out if the weak bat continues, and all the folks on this thread with itchy DFA fingers would get their satisfaction.

First time in a long time I saw Pete not on base. Did he have a streak of games on base walks and hits.?
Good to see Lindor back and looks like we really do have a good rotation. Wish they all could go 6+

The Cubs miss Senga this weekend so that's a break for them. It will be interesting to see if Mets pitchers can keep their bats at bay. It would be encouraging to get 2 of 3 this weekend.

Since I missed yesterday I gave 2 updates, one from Wednesday and one from Thursday.

I added 2 more pitchers. Felipe De La Cruz who started the year at AA and was promoted to AAA. 23 year old LHP who has put himself on the map and can be a possible reliever candidate later if he keeps this up. They have been starting him all year at both levels but then he had a pen outing for this date. At AA he 13.2 IP with a 1.98 ERA and 20 K to 3 BB. At AAA so far he has thrown 7.2 scoreless in 7.2 IP with 11 K to 1 BB. He is basically a smaller leftie at 6'0 and basically a 2 pitch pitcher which is why most think he'll stay in pen at major league level if he makes it. FB and SL combo.

I also added 21 year Edgar Moreta at Low A St. Lucie who is on the map now. We'll see how he goes and get a report on what he throws as we move on. As the season moves on we might have a lot of arms to follow. They seem to building some really great depth here.

I may or may not add Nick Lorusso who is raking at AA and was a 9th rounder in 2023. He is a little older for the league at 24 but doing really well. For now keeping him off.

The Brooklyn game was suspended in the top of the 9th so they'll finish it next time out. Reimer and Ewing really upping their stock so far this year. Been fun to see them rake. I would bet Reimer will be getting the bump up to AA soon.

If anyone wants someone added or wants to me to do anything differently I'm always up for suggestions as well!
