RIP. Saw them at the then Garden State Arts Center June 24, 1989. Solid show.

Strength is a great song:

Words to live by:

In 2018, he told Guitar World magazine that his "simple message" was "to stay alive and appreciate every second you've got".

"Live right up to the last breath and stay positive about the world, your family and the environment you live in."

Saw them several times. Had tickets for their most recent tour, then he was diagnosed again and they suspended the tour. Just figured he would beat it and the tour would resume. So sad! RIP Mike.

Had to look it up but I saw them at The Barn on March 11, 1986. Thanks to my roommate who knew their work. Excellent show.

RIP. Loved The Alarm. To me their biggest hit was The Stand, but that because it was their first big video hit on MTV. My buddy who was always ahead of the curve on bands got me into them early on.

Was a big fan of the Alarm, having seen them at one of my top 10 all-time shows, as the opener for U2 (my favorite band at the time) at the Pier in NYC in 1983. Also saw them at Rutgers. Great band that always brought 110% energy to their live shows.

From a personal perspective, that NYC Pier show had a serendipitous element to it that made it extra special. Was driving into NYC that afternoon with a friend, hoping to get to the "General Admission" (with seats, but first come first served) show 2 hours before the concert start to get great seats, but the Lincoln Tunnel was a parking lot and we lost a good hour, such that there was already at least 1000 people there when we walked up, which meant the best seats were taken. We were bummed, but then as we were walking towards the available seats (still good), we ran into two friends of ours who we knew were also going and it turned out that they had saved us two seats in the front row! Sweet serendipity in the days before cell phones - people under about 35 have likely never experienced moments like that. Was an incredible show by both bands.

Have to admit.. I have zero knowledge of this band. It is kinda strange.. I feel like I should know them for some reason.. but I played snippets of all teh vids in this thread and no memories sprang forth. Weird.

That is odd - I would've thought you'd know them also.

They came out around the same time as U2 and introduced the "positive punk" movement that bands like Big Country and others would mimic.

In the early 80s, I thought The Alarm was every bit as good as U2 and I loved them both. My top 3 Alarm songs are:
1. 68 Guns
2. Rescue Me
3. Marching On

Honestly, I never understood why they didn't grow more popular. When the "Eye of the Hurricane" album came out in 1987, I thought that was going to be the album to bring them to the next level. But it never happened for them. So I guess I like them more than most.

The last time I saw Mike Peters play was a small venue in NYC about 5 years ago. You could see his hands were swollen and he wasn't in the best health. But he kept rocking until the end.

Last show of theirs that I saw was at the Wonder Bar in 2018, such a great place to see a show, nice and cozy! Greatest hits set list. I always hoped they'd get bigger but never happened. Weren't unknown by any stretch but never made it to stadium shows on their own.
