Disappointing. It is a shame he did not get more opportunities last year as the backup, not good roster management. Four passes in two years, all completions. With his size we should have had a wildcat package for him and at least tried it against the cupcakes. Hope Surace is looking good, I didn't see much in the last spring game but realize he should have still been in HS. Time to look at the portal for someone with experience, right now and injury would be devastating.

Saw that coming a mile away & said so. The fix was in for the kid whose father coaches Princeton I believe it is.
i would hope also, or more so, that he was just better and fair competition for backup
He's not the kind of QB that fits RU's "style" and he'll be better off somewhere else.
Pat White would have problems at RU
Agree the lack of getting backups into games at some point will create a problem.
I don't see any experienced QB coming to RU just to sit on the bench all season or praying for a injury.
You just compared him to an all time great college QB?

In this new world of college football, it will be increasingly rare for any program to have more than 2 legit QBs on their roster for any given season.
Hope that wasn’t the case. I think most RU fans wanted to see more of Ajani. I know Rich holds AJ in high regards but we have yet to see it.
Greg usually calls things straight down the middle and wants the best to play no matter the circumstances. Let’s give AJ benefit of the doubt for winning the backup spot. Only time will tell if he’s a quality successor to Athan.

Just like the fix was in for Ryan Cubit. Mr. K. Choppin' is a QB guru, just ask him. Shelby does believe Mr. K. Choppin' can indeed spell QB correctly probably at least 80% of the time unless someone else calls a TO to ice him.
I wish it were that simple. Politics is part of the game even in sports. Some of it is easy to see, and others are so well hidden. You don't know about it until years later.
Where do you get that?? Besides Rutgers was "happy" with Gavin so Schiano isn't interested in accuracy.
BTW he was a perfect 2-2 at Rutgers so that kills your theory.

F the practice BS. This is the same BS posted around here for years while the Qb have been under utilized/developed for years. Most other top college FB teams give their #2 Qbs a chance and some time in games to see what they can do. Never here. Not with this 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense.
The LITTLE bit we saw of him in games he didn't miss the throws, made decent decisions, and ran well. WHAT we ACTUALLY got to see of him because God forbid he looked better than the dude we made the deals with. (and yeah that goes ALL the way back to Cubit and his dad and Chad Scwenk. Schiano has NEVER had a clue about Qb management and development in his what near 20 years here as a D and former linebacker at Bucknell).
Who is the dude he made the deal with and how do you know he simply just didn’t get beat out this spring?….

The backup qb is always the best qb according to fans that never see them perform, coaches whose job depends upon winning & playing the best at every position know who is best & play them
If you haven't been following the history of Greg Schiano and QB recruitment/play for his two times here I can't help you out. Not EVERYTHING is but some things can be.

Yet another tried and true explanation to the common long time fans who have their own eyes. That is just fine but doesn't explain the historical lack of playing time given to almost every #2 Rutgers QB under GS over his time here. He has 1 guy who comes here either because of a relationship or in Gavin's case because of $$ and the hype and GS will ride them.

It was reported here that AS was #2 going into camp. I've seen him in limited action in a real game.
I've not seen AJ.
I've heard fans gush over guys like Gavin, Art, Dc, etc. (here's a nice list)... I've seen some of Rutgers BEST QBs ever. This guy is clueless when it comes to that spot. and YES, THAT is MY OPINION.
Amen. Ajani probably got shown the door for suggesting RU should strive for a Top 100 passing game. That’s heretical in Choppinville and Schiano revoked his scholarship before Shepard even finished the sentence.

That’s not opinion. That’s fact. The #1 job of a Schiano QB is to get to 4th down and the punt team on the field when the running game isn’t working.
