This was posted on the Twitter account of St. John’s biggest booster. Notice how he spells “assure” - it just feels slimy:

I don’t think the biggest spenders are left as we’ve noted on here previously the most active portal teams and spenders either didn’t make the tournament or got bounced early

It’s also not much of An achievement to go 15-17 with 2 lottery picks this year

Or less next year

A few years ago
You hire him with the knowledge that criticism will fly here in Jersey ,
and you ignore it
He gets you to the big dance and deeper into it
If he screws up, at least you have a nice jumping off point

After decade and decade of misfiring hires......

one day we will look back at all this and realize how bizarre it is. Asking alumni to pay the 6 and 7 figure payments to athletes to wear the uniform of your favorite college for a year.

Didn't see anyone saying it wasn't much of an achievement when we beat Temple or BC in football.
Or SHU in basketball.

I must have missed all those threads and posts and fundraising campaigns:

"Rutgers can't win unless fans donate to upgrade facilities and weight rooms and locker rooms. It's up to the fans to donate or else Rutgers can't keep up in the facilities arms race and stay competitive. Rutgets Football can't win unless fans donate to build a Fieldhouse."

College athletics has always been based on begging fans to donate in order to stay competitive.

I have to imagine you see the difference between contributing money that helps to build infrastructure that allows coaches to recruit better versus contributing money that goes directly into the pocket of an 18 year old.

They weren’t doing much until Pitino came along. Any likely won’t after. Money goes only so far - after that, you need a competent coach.

It really wasn’t. anyway, we didn’t beat temple or bc because our players got more money , if they even got any money.

that's the game now, the big spenders start one step ahead, the rest just play catch-up and hope to get ahead.

Didn't we beat them because we spend more on coaches, assistsnt coaches, support staff, trainers and facilities?

Oh no, @superfan01 i know how the game is played. I was responding to tweeting “I a$$ure you…” which makes the donor look at an arrogant a$$. There is a way I would want people associated with my team to act, with a certain level of class. I’m not saying that we need to be perfect, but there is a line you have to cross if you are willing to bring in a certain coach with a certain background. At some point, we need to think about our values and be able to look in the mirror.

I mean the 18 year old is the talent …same as a business buying land, buildings and also paying talented employees. You need talented employees, you must understand that.

How about paying 7 and 8 figure payments to Head Coaches coaching "amateur" sports?

Sure I understand the talent on the floor is the attraction. Just like the talent on the floor/field in professional sports. In that case, my dollars go to ticket sales, concessions, apparel, etc — not directly to the players. In this case, my dollars have to go to those same things plus infrastructure improvements plus directly to players. At least in the pros, I get multi year contracts for players.
