This really sucks watching this selection show. Especially Pitino and the job he did in 2 short years.

We seem farther away than ever, and no hope in sight without a miracle portal haul.

That’s all I got 😞😩

Michigan operates like a true athletic department! Howard made 2 NCAA and region final. He was ranked in 4 different years . 3 in the top 10, in 5 total years. One terrible season and he’s gone and now they win Big ten and will be a top 6 seed.

Rutgers Pike makes 2 NCAA in 9 years ranked twice and has missed the tournament 3 years in a row. The last 2 years losing seasons and this year a historically bad season with 2 NBA lottery players. He is a nice guy and he made the tournament so obviously we keep him and then wonder why we are in this position.

It’s so frustrating!

I’ve never been so disinterested in selection Sunday. Obviously we went through basically a generation with no ncaa appearances but we had no expectations so it basically didn’t matter. We got a taste with Pike and this year with all the hype it’s really painful.

Portal Haul won’t do it we need a coaching
Haul. Pike has to go, Pitino would have taken this roster dancing
Unless you get a player who can coach on the floor like PM Rutgers will not dance with Pike!

Not this roster, it could not shoot the 3 consistently.

It is debatable. Kids make shots not coaches. You want to say he brought in wrong kids? Sure, hindsight. Wide open airballs and key missed free throws are not a coaches fault.

If both terribles aren’t true, he’s probably still there.

A myriad of issues this year, illness, injuries, poor portal class that didn’t fit the needs. Lack of NIL which leads to a poor portal class, lack of effort and consistency on defense, (that’s a player issue, hard to imagine a worse perimeter defense), Inconsistent coaching and a generally flawed offensive approach. Three returning players, one part time starter. It evident you can’t build a team around freshman, even two great one’s. Not to mention middle of the road transfers, and virtually no returning upperclass leadership. Neither Ace or Harper were team leaders, and it is unfair to expect them to be.
It’s not just Rutgers there was a lot of flawed basketball played this year thanks to the portal shuffle which opens the door for inconsistency and lack of cohesive effort. Sadly it doesn’t look like it will get a whole lot better until someone puts some structure around NIL and the portal.

You don’t seem to know what a coach does.
Like I said not debatable.

Maybe the worst part of all of this is that there is really little hope for a turnaround next year. Even if Grant, Dorch, Somerville, and Ogbole return , Pike will have to integrate 5 or 7 new players of varying skill levels into a coherent team. He obviously could not do that this year. So why would anyone believe he could do it next year?

Yet here we are bringing in 4 of them, more than any other B1G team right now. Three of them are 3-star players so probably not much help for next year.

Even though Pike is already indicating the OOC will be crap, I still think it’s under. If Sommerville stays (not likely), we will probably have one player who could start for another B1G team …unless he works a miracle and pulls some real talent out the portal (also not likely). The rest could be Grant, Dortch, Ogbole, Derkack, JWill and JMike. Yikes

Would it be Phil Jackson’s fault in a game up 2 in a game with 1 minute left, and he ran a play that was Steve Kerr bringing up the ball who hands off Jud Beuchler . Beuchler “. The ball does is never touched by MJ or Pippen and Beuchler drives to the rim and throws up a left handed hook airball. Then 40 secs later to ice the game up 2 under 10 secs he runs an inbounds for Beuchler and not Jordan too shoot the 2 FT’s to ice the game and he misses!!!

Because none of the incoming players will be ball dominant black holes only showcasing and validating their draft projections.

Pike thought the intersection of that and the abilities of the rest of the team would be successful.

It wasn’t. The team was exposed. Poor defense, limited inside scoring, injury/illness, predictable late-clock iso from Harper and Bailey and of course big misses on Derkack, Hayes and Martini coupled with the Davis shitshow.

This whole argument that Pitino only won this year and turned the Johnnies into what they are is "because of NIL" is total BS. He's done it everywhere he's been and long before NIL. Damn right we would be in the tourney with him and likely a good group of other better coaches. .
