basketball maybe. Shelby isn't convinced it's hopeless. Pike struck out this year but might turn things around with a better portal haul next year.

football no. Schiano's once-every-20 year easy schedule tailwind and 7-5 season comes crashing back to earth having to play some of the best teams. It will be interesting to see how he manages gets yet another raise and extension.
Will Shelby put himself in 2 day jail next year when Schiano again proves he has no idea what he is talking about ?

Sure he will. What’s the wager ?

What has Schiano proved, ever ? That he can get into a bowl game along with 77 other teams ? Ok, you got me there. He did prove that.

Most here, and Shelby assumes you, see 7-5 as progress. Shelby sees 7-5 as due to not playing the 4 playoff teams or Michigan.

Shelby also sees 1.0’s peak, nevermind the slide afterward, due to all the best teams that he never beat leaving the league by then. And then after that, backfill UConn and Cinci even made BCS bowls. Did Rutgers ?

No one on this team who saw meaningful minutes is returning next year, these threads are wild

Strange observation
Ogbole, Davis, Derkack, Dortch have no place to go but down, and Grant hasn't shown enough to reap big bucks elsewhere. And there are no 4s in the game anymore, so Sommerville's options are limited too. Maybe Nwuli coming will send Sommerville away.

All 6 get PT (counting Ogbole) and none merit big NIL. They are all likely coming back.

The better question is, even though it won't happen, who would we rather see go away. Shelby's order:
1. Dortch
2. Derkack
3. Davis
4. Sommerville
5. Ogbole
6. Grant

Funny, he’d be the one I’d want back the most. He’s the best defender of any of them, and also the best scorer. Sure, boneheaded plays occasionally but if you had to put money on someone on the list scoring 10 points in a game who else would you pick instead ?

I could argue that the returning team although less skilled, play Pike style ball. They’ll get better at D. Somerville is the one I’d question most and can see leaving. Offense is the problem. We desperately need 2 senior starting scoring guards to transfer in.

He’s not a better defender than JMike, can’t break the press and can’t run an offense

Not really, players will transfer up or down to maximize playing time or NIL based on skillset. It’s all about what can you do for me right now in the current world, so I find it impossible to believe these players will stick around for what looks to be a brutal 25/26 season.

Who's going to design an offense that will maximize the talents of these high scoring transfers?
