Classic! And guessing not the words Whitey wanted to hear at that point!

Reminds me of a story that a friend of mine told me about his college baseball pitching career. He came into a game and gave up three homers on four pitches. His coach came out to the mound and said "Hey Tom. Is there any way you can throw a couple of triples while we warm somebody up?"

Good stuff.. anyone know who won that Yankees - WhiteSox game?

BTW.. why were there 3 baseball teams named for the color of their socks? What is that? Can you imagine an expansion team today settling on "Blue Sox"?

This did not happen vs White Sox with Big Klu.
I'm beginning to think that Whitey made this up.
Maybe during halftime I'll be able to check his entire career.

Great story, thank you! Quite a bit of baseball history (and personalities) in that pitcher's mound meeting that day with Casey, Whitey and your Dad all there! Tim Russert was a huge baseball fan, wasn't he? He looks like a kid in a candy shop in that video asking for, and then listening to, the story! Go RU!

Acually at least four/five if you go back far enough - the St. Louis Cardinals were originally the Brown Stockings. When the American League Milwaukee Brewers moved to St Louis, the Cardinals had already changed their name, so the American League newcomers called themselves the Browns

I've seen this before. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Love it!
