I'm very familiar with the reports on the legal issues... what I was trying to convey is I have no direct knowledge beyond the reports. I'm sure there's more to come though.

WHTG was a very good station in its heyday and Matt was a big part of that. Sad news.
It was such a fantastic station. I remember when we moved from Monmouth County and we were in Randolph high on a hill, I was thrilled that with a great antenna, I was able to received FM106.3. This was, of course, pre-internet radio. Brookdale Community College's HD2 station Altrok has a very similar format, and it is commercial free. You can listen online or through many apps.

Well, SI is closer to Eatontown than places like Hillsborough or Plainfield are. Living in NB/HP/P'way while in grad school that was close to the edge of where I'd get good reception of WHTG. I'd start to lose the station when driving once I reached about 287/78 to the NW or about Elizabeth along 95.

Matt spinning at Charlie's Uncle in EB (prior to the Melody era) was my Tuesday night jam. Hope he fully recovers.
I remember he did that, but that predated our friendship - must've been fun nights. We met when he was DJing on WRSU, as I had a couple of other friends already DJ-ing there in the early 80s, so the first place I got to see him DJ was Todd's a bar on Commercial Ave in maybe 82-83 and then he moved to the Melody. For a few years I was going most Weds/Fri/Sundays on Matt's nights at the Mel and I'd help bring in the record crates and/or load them out, plus every once in awhile, I'd play a song if Matt didn't get back in time (he had substance abuse issues way back then too) or I'd try to get him back to the booth. There's way more, but maybe later or maybe I'll try to find the old Mel thread with that if interested.
They were. I loved his shows. It was tough to find alternative music in the suburbs in those days. He must have been 18-19 years old. Encyclopedic knowledge of music already. I used to see him (with hair) shopping at the original Cheap Thrills. I heard his record collection was in the thousands. Never saw him at Todd’s but I frequented the Melody (daytime too) from when it became the Melody. It was still an old man’s bar during the day.
Most knowledgeable person regarding music of nearly every genre/era that I've ever known, hands down. Back in the mid 80s we hung out some after the Melody and I remember being just floored by his album collection: he had about 8000 albums filling up an entire wall of his apartment and the funny part was he said that was his "heavy rotation" collection, as he had about 25,000 more at his house in EB, where he grew up.
Thank you for the thread link. I will enjoy it all over again. I worked with a woman who went to high school with Matt. She told me that his record collection was in the thousands then.
My good friend Pete Santiago, another Melody DJ who is best friends with Matt (they DJ-ed our wedding in 1991, as they DJ-ed events together back then), said he spoke to Matt two days ago and that "He’s doing and getting better." I'm sure I'll hear more at the Reunion at the Elks this Saturday, which is on, despite some last minute drama, as it sounds like the Elks building (which they don't own and has many tenants) is finally being sold and will either be demolished or renovated (been talking about this for years though) and for a minute it was thought we'd have to find an alternate venue. Probably the last one there though.
Just a little while ago, my friend Pete posted that, "Matt he’s out of ICU!!! His speech is at 100% and he’s working on walking again." Fantastic news.
This is incredible news. Happy for him. I was expecting the worst based on initial reports.
I think almost everyone was, but Matt is clearly a fighter based on this and his recovery from almost being killed by a car a few years ago, as well as his many cycles falling off and getting back on the wagon, which takes a lot out of a person.
