Do we have any idea how much money was paid out for the Las Vegas tournament?
Who got paid what?
Who and what determines how that money is allocated?

I am sure most fans don't want to talk about it or admit it could be relative to our performance on the court. Without knowing any details, as it seems to be non public, I can't dismiss the fact it COULD (not is) be having an impact on our team.

It is absolute insane that all this occurs in secret.

I think each school received $1,000,000. Was that split evenly? Have the players been paid yet? Was it split over 2 years to help with taxes (Ace and Dylan N/A)?

I read that the money was, in fact, paid out. But all excellent questions that we'll probably never get answered.

Another NIL thought......

Is it possible Grant and Dortch don't want to play or out right refusing to play at this point in the season as it would screw up 4 potential years (redshirt this year) of earning capabilities?

I 100% would not blame them. I am having a difficult time believing one of them couldn't be an upgrade over Martini.

Is it possible Grant did get in the LV games so he can earn a slice of money?

shh I keep bringing this up and no one wants to talk about it

and yeah do not stick your head in the sand that these players were going to hyperfocus on the Vegas tourney because of $$$ compared to a game vs Princeton

and everyone plays pretend...the ad, the coaches, the players, the sportswriters, the fans

dont ask dont tell BUT GIVE US YOUR MONEY
Next year you will be asked to pay more. It is going to be VERY difficult to pony up $400 per game for 2 seats (if they charge an additional $1,000 per seat) for a team that could have all fresh faces with little expectations.

the decision to bolt will then be an easy one...i know people keep saying ooh you are just saying that and you wont do it but yeah Im not all that interested in a rotating yearly lineup. The RAC might become a nice place to visit a few games a year rather than reside. You start to move on and find different things. Almost at that point with football too because if you want to go you can always just buy tix and sometimes going less makes it more special...we will see how it plays out.

The one thing that would have my coming back is not losing my seat, BUT if a RAC renovation is really happening that would be for naught because there would be a great big reshuffle

I dropped a seat this year and glad I did. I'll probably drop my last seat for next year. I can go to the games I want for around the same price.

Me.

I did do it with FB and definitely don't regret it. Basketball is going to be tougher. The one thing that could make it easier is that I don't like where the game is headed (not NIL related). The game is starting to like more NBA like.

3 point rate (% of FG attempts that are 3s)
2025 39.3%

I think this happens if an entity outside of Rutgers athletics wants to see it happen. Not sure what that could be.

Our athletic budget (expenses) just increased $20,000,000 now that we are quasi forced to pay athletes $20,000,000. I wouldn't think we can add another servicing of debt to the budget.

yeah, I'd say the RAC renovation is on life support for the foreseeable future. Not that it ever got past the "look at these designs" stage.

The hope arrived this year for fans with more wins and players more money. Looks like we all got short changed. But Iike all good runs if the finish is strong it won't matter what has happened its all apart of the ride.

Last year we can only guess (would be a very educated one) Mag held out for money and completely HIJACKED our season
The book is being written on this year....wouldn't surprise me if NIL "issues" are torpedoing our season as we speak.

No they aren't playing because they aren't better then who is out there on the court.

Grant already played some games, so he can't redshirt. The minute you play one second, you burn your redshirt. As for Dortch? He still has his redshirt available.

we are in what the 3rd year of nil or 2nd and its incredibly different from the first season...yeah im not really into this kind of collegiate play.
I moved a little bit further away and it makes attending tougher in particular night games with any sort of weather. I held on this year because of the recruiting class but fully expect to drop bball. Most likely football too although there’s more continuity there so far. I don’t feel like I’m rooting for college teams any more. I lost rooting interest in pro sports a long time ago. I realize not everyone thinks like this and people certainly enjoy both sports immensely but I’m probably done with season tickets.

How are some of the other teams doing?
Alabama #5
Oregon #9
Texas A&M #13
Houston #14
Doesn't seem real detrimental to all the teams.
If HC Pike particularly unable to control his team?

Does HC Pike and staff get paid extra for Big Ten Tournament?
What about NCAA Tournament games?
If HC Pike has NCAA Tournament bonuses, does he coach extra hard those games and not as much in other games?
Spends extra time preparing?

Do you know how Alabama allocated it's NIL?
Do you know how Rutgers allocated it's NIL?

As far as HC Pike controlling his team....this team is the 1st time that has been bad defensively.

What Pike and his assistants make are public and is known before the season starts. Coaches know they have a chance to make more after the season and not during the season.

There is someone or some entity on the fly determining where the $1,000,000 goes. I'd be pissed if I was Jordan Derkack and i saw a small piece of that. It would be very difficult to have aminosity,,,,,then you add getting benched for defensive purposes when others are a llowed to take off possessions without a peep.

I refuse to believe we are as bad defensively as we are showing.

Mag hijacker’s nothing. Last year Pike kicked the season with a bad team.

Mag is a nice player but the Michael Jordan level player ppl want to make him out to be

Mr. NBA,

You aren't getting an argument that players shouldn't get paid. How, how much, allocation of money is obvious a debate. What we are seeing now is downright ridiculous.

I know your comeback is......the world doesn't know how much you get paid and when you may get a bonus. The answer is there are well defined pay scales in most big organizations. If you work for a big corporation there are different "levels" and pay ranges that go with them. If you are in sales you get a predefined percentage of revenue.

He could still redshirt as you can redshirt in any year not just as a freshman. But he did play so has used a year of eligibility. You have 5 years to play in 4 unless there is a medical condition. Most use redshirt as freshman but you can use it later.

Agreed.

But the argument appears to be players getting different payments tanks a season.
Which is crazy.

Do all the assistant coaches get paid the same?
Are they secretly tanking the season out of resentment?
Does Coach Hobbs hate Coack Knight?
Maybe Coach Knight is tanking the season because he thinks he should be HC and wants a raise.

What about all the teams where players received illegal payments while other players got nothing?
All those Reggie Bush USC teams were terrible while he was getting apartments and payments.
All his teammates hated him and the teams were failures.

All of those payment with coaches and players are negotiated before the season and with the coaches it is a signed contract that everyone knows what each other is making.

This is different in that there is a pot of $1,000,000 that some entity is in charge of making a decision who gets it. That decision could be ruffling feathers.

I know this is all just guesswork...I do know we are a mess defensively. I do think there is defintely an effort problem

It's complete guesswork.

Isn't it reasonable this money was divided up months ago?
It's not some random entity. Isn't it the Rutgers NIL collective?
I would easily assumed this was decided months ago.

If you are right and this is throwing off the season, then it was doomed from the beginning.

All the complaining about rebounding and defense and solutions are worthless.

Is that the premise? There is zero anything can be done to fix the team?
The money has been divided so the season is over.
Are you not watching anymore then?

It was given to the RU collective.

This has nothing to do with the team effort and dynamics.

All of it was negotiated with the players when they were signing at RU way before the season began.

We play alot of close games we came beat any team and lose too. Thus this is an exciting team with lots of eyes on it. The entertainment value is there with this year's Rutgers team. When we stop talking about ir them we're done.
