I’m not sure he’d be able to retain players, I don’t think many players feel like he’s capable of developing them to their full potential.

We’d see plenty of Cam Spencer’s and Eugene.
He seems too nice imo. Doesnt feel like he runs as tight a ship and is nearly as detail oriented as is required both as a coach and a retainer of talent. I dont think any players fear him.

Schiano knows who the back-up maintenance guys are if one is sick. Hes constantly recruiting his own players daily. He is on top of everything and anything. I think people have a small degree of healthy fear in him and because of that respect the hell out of him which is why I think Rutgers is losing the least amount of players to the portal of any p4 school.

Pike gives off the vibe of, i got who i got and it is what it is. Im not sure that can work in 2025 forward

Agree with this. All you have to do is see those Knight Flicks vids that the football team posts after a win. The belief he injects into his team when he speaks is infectious.

Every year is now one and done, just not one and done to NBA, but to the portal. If we think he’s ever going to build a Geo Baker, Caleb Mcconnel type team, we’re all in for a rude awakening, that will never happen again. Coaching is now year to year, it’s not about player development, it’s about in game coaching and execution, not his strength

Player development will continue to be down in the lower D1 leagues, and the B1G and other P5s will be the recipients of those efforts. He needs to coach at a lower level where player development matters.

If you notice, our class has 4 hs players coming in next year (I believe a 4 star and three 3 star), this is the only reason its ranked high right now (sheer numbers), while almost every other B1G team has one or none. It makes almost no sense to recruit these players anymore, and certainly not this many. Other B1G teams are beginning to recruit hs player who can play right away, and the rest of their players they get from the portal supplemented by retaining underclassman. Pike’s typical 3 star who requires two years to develop make zero sense as they’ll leave if the developer anyway.

Harper and Ace aside, who I understand he was handed anyway, his recruiting has been terrible the last 3-4 years.

Next season, he will literally need to recruit 4 B1G starters from the portal provided Sommerville stays, which is doubtful, when he hasn’t proven he can ever recruit one….unless you consider Derkack, Davis, Ogbole etc B1G starters, which I do not.

We are in this mess not because of recruiting one and dones. We’re in this mess because of recruiting failures from 2021-2023. That caused Pike to flip the roster and then miss in the portal
We are actually in this mess due to piss poor Gameday coaching, personnel mgmt, and horrible substitutions. ALL coaching!

I actually think we have some decent players yet we haven’t set them up for success. While PJ is a matador on defense he is NEVER setup for a wide open 3 which we saw out of wisky tonight. Thats his ONLY game yet we never see it. Rather just stand in the corner and wait for a pass from guys like JMike, Jwill, and Dercack who never pick their head up when they make a decision to drive to the basket. They never get pulled after that so I question the accountability from the coaches.

Hayes has actually had and missed many wide open 3s this year unfortunately. Same for Martini

Obvious statement but Dylan’s illness could not have come at a worse time and he probably won’t be 100% for Purdue. He’s a monumental loss in a season with zero margin for error.
True but **** happens. That’s why you can’t lose to Princeton and Kennesaw State (on the road no less…smh)…or schedule them with nothing to gain for that matter.

That’s also why you don’t bring in mid major talent and try to sell them as better than that.

Zero margin for error is all Pike’s fault.

For sure. At the end of the day nobody will care or remember that he got sick. Still sucks though.

Pike needs to adapt otherwise he will be swallowed alive - which seems to be slowly occurring in front of our eyes.

Furthermore Pike needs to make tough decisions this offseason with his staff in lieu of his loyalty etc.

Don't underestimate how much an 18 year old can recover in a few days

Those decisions will be made at Shake shack because that’s where he will be coaching next year.

Pikes been bad but this is all time monumentally bad.

Even if he recovers his conditioning is probably going to be an issue. We need him to be himself for 35 minutes. I don’t see that happening based on what he’s been through. Just my opinion.
