This was so predictable unfortunately except I thought he would struggle with the things he struggles with but wouldn't completely forget how to shoot an open 3
He has been horrible. BUT, I have seen him play.much better. His confidence is shot. I still think he can contribute with 3s and a little defense if he finds himself
I drank the Koolaid this offseason and I’m really kicking myself, I guess it was hard to quantify his detractions on the defensive end. In Ivy League games last year he played 81 percent of minutes and took ~6 shots per game and hardly rebounded, we’re getting no fairly similar stuff in terms of usage rate.

Carino is Derek Simpson’s biggest fan. Don’t care what that schmuck thinks.
Kid is a better player than he’s shown, but not at this level. But it’s thread titles like this that show how much some of our fans suck.
He felt he needed a poised and smart senior leader to help guide a young team.
Lots of folks here were angry at me for posting, before the season, that we really didn’t know what we had and wouldn’t until we played in Vegas, and perhaps not even for a while after that. As if me not jumping onto the “how deep a run in the tournament will we make” bandwagon, and refusing to make any predictions at all, was an offense against humanity or something.
But with a nearly brand new team, where the best players were likely to be true freshmen, and where we knew we’d be lacking a dominant scoring and disruptive defending center, we only had reason for hope, not certainty of any kind.
Ironically, I’m not nearly as down on the team right now as others seem to be. They’re not doing as well as I’d hoped. But there is still massive potential and the team is continually improving and, unless they get too discouraged, will continue to improve through the season.
Inconsistency is pretty much the rule with younger players. But that will improve. The superstars are really shining and dominate the conversation in ways they probably wouldn’t on a team loaded with such players. So they’re showing the world that being a superstar at RU won’t hurt, and might even help their draft stock.
The big question is if the team can reach enough of its potential, become consistent enough, to make the tournament. But I suspect they will win some big games against really good teams, even if they don’t pull it all together consistently enough to get into the tournament. We’ll see.
I’m excited for the rest of the season, will keep things in perspective and will remain supportive of the coaches and players no matter what.

You cannot be much of a leader if you do not produce on the court. Obviously, he was better at Princeton than we have seen. The distance for a 3pt. shot is the same and he has been getting open looks (since defenses have no concern for him) so you have to say he has lost it. The one that came up a few feet short of the rim was a beauty.

I mean let’s be honest men, you can’t win a B1G 10 game, no one can win a B1G 10 game when you can’t rebound, your point guard wears ice skates and falls on his *** half the game, and the best guard in the country for my money is sick and can’t play.
Our next man up to replace one of the best players in the country would have a tough time breaking into the lineup at Montclair State

He is struggling for sure. I just don’t know how the staff is playing him 20+ min like he has in two of the past three games.
It’s like Top Gun. They have to keep sending him up to get him back in the saddle. Martini and Hayes are playing scared because they don’t understand their role.
I don't know about that. I kinda doubt either player doesn't understand their role. It's not exactly rocket science. And it isn't difficult or insulting to them to tell them to play hard on D, get rebounds, and rain 3s when they have open shots.
I don't know why players, who are great shooters prior to coming to RU, struggle so much at RU, a struggle that seems to get worse over time. I sometimes wonder if the court(s) where they practice have some kind of lighting or something that they get used to and then are thrown off when playing away games or perhaps even at the RAC, if they practice somewhere other than the RAC.
Could be the level of competition as well as other factors. But it's kind of odd.

He came to us as a good 3-point shooter and 90% at the foul line. When he scored 18 points against Monmouth I thought we really had something.
In 5 of the last 7 games he has had zero points. And in two of those games, at home, he amassed absolutely no stats — 0 points from the field, 0 points from the foul line, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocked shots. So disappointing.
