If KSU doesn't make the 4th down conversion....

RU wins, there's 8 wins and the pundits (and posters) are talking of impressive offense, program on upswing etc.

Instead, it gets converted and the narrative is the program hit a ceiling, negativity blah blah.. No miracle play from Illinois, UCLA etc and the whole thing is mightily different in perspective. Still the same team...and culture etc.

Way too much being read into a few plays here and there, and one in particular yesterday. (Before someone points out all the defensive lapses and there were many, and will be discussed further separately, the point HERE is that one play has changed the post game narrative, and far too much so).

And if VT and Washington score to end those games we are 5-7 and don’t even make a bowl.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda

The “couple plays here or there” goes both ways.

Failure to intercept three passes in Rutgers defenders hands is another reason for the loss.i would have been happy with one which meant Kansas State didn't then score a touch down.

Ultimately the problem is the perceived trajectory of the program. Look at next season's schedule. It will be a minor miracle if we win 6 games.

The Mascoe one hurt. That could have stopped the bleeding a bit.

I'd like to see a freeze frame of the 3 missed INT's.

I saw it as over longerbeam, too far away from DJ. Didn't get a good look at the Mascoe near miss.

2nd play of game miller dropped a first down catch

Next play was 40 yard fade on 3rd down

Rutgers punted

Then scored on 5 straight possessions

We are where we should be record wise but that doesn’t mean the excessive negativity is warranted. That and still nobody likes the Nets.

The Miller miss was wierd.. I think he ran a bad route.. ball was thrown at 1st down marker and Miller looked like he expected it outside short of that marker... like the QB can throw a ball where teh WR wants it in the BLIND on a timing pattern. I read that as poor route-running rather than a poor pass or a drop.

I called that fade a PI.. it was maybe defensive holding but I missed that the pass was pretty far out of bounds... bad throw by AK there so early in game.

He had his left hand on top of his right hand. Tough way to catch a throw with velocity. His left hand should have been below the ball.

The ball might have got him so quick that he didn't have time to make the adjustment or didn't think he had time to make the adjustment.

The ball is well thrown in my opinion. Miller probably doesn't have a lot of reps catching the ball from this angle and he likely had a brain freeze.

a lot of misplayed for sure but as some have gleaned, that wasn’t the point. Had one play turned out a different way, there would be a whole different storyline being told about this season.

And it wouldn’t have changed the actual facts or the status of the program one bit. The program is by and large the same whether or not that fourth town got converted.

For some perspective, it was so much good feelings after the Miami win and preseason they were pics of nine and 10 wins and look how that turned out. Perhaps having a little bit of edge and not so much platitudes in the off-season may do some good.

What one play ? The disastrous TO to freeze the Illinois kicker on a try that has never and will never be made, ever, ever, ever ?

The original post identified the play but methinks someone just wantes to revisit Ill, but misses that it was the D lapses that lost that game on he final play.

Right on cue you blame the refs.

I think on one of the missed INT’s DJ was purposely trying no step on his teammate on the ground..caused the missed catch.
