A lot to like about this team moving forward. The concern is too many growing pains losses along the way to overcome

No one will want to play us in the tournament
this. just get in the tourney and we can beat anyone in the country maybe minus kansas and auburn. anyone else we have a shot against . We just showed it the last two games against two highly ranked teams.

I know many people are upset we lost. But, being out here in Vegas, I saw many positive signs. We must tighten up the defense, but today we kept the lane open on offense. That is a big step to us becoming a real good team.

We will be fine. Just relax.....

Best of Luck,
Groz
The Aggies played zone defense which stifled Harper drives to the basket and Rutgers lacks 3 point shooters to attack the zone from the corners.

The defense is the defense.

Stop taking bad shots. This isn't 2023 where we had no offensive weapons or sharp shooters.

We need to squeeze every ounce out of the offense. It's easier to do less of something than more of something.

Depends on what you define as fine

If getting a top seee ncaa is the goal

8-3 OOC without a major out of confrnce win (okay a couoke of good losses)

Now …even if we do reallt well and finish top 3 and 14-6 (and that’s asking a LOT) …that’s 22-9…

I think that’s what we woikd need to do

Groz, I feel the same as you. I am glad I went to Vegas and saw us play well. We just have to stay the course. We are improving each and every day. Today we fouled a lot but we outrebounded Texas A & M who were pounding on us early in the game and might be the best rebounding team in the nation. I think we learned a lot from these last 3 games.

Bingo!! Thank you!! Wins matter. Weeks like this hurt your season and impact seeding.

Seeding??? In what world should we be worried about seeding.

Especially after kennels state…This week showed we can hang with the best teams..that’s all that matters right now

Then both of you guys should try harder as fans to help the team win.

Relax. If it works out, great. It will be a fun year. If it doesnt, then shrug your shoulders and laugh at another way Rutgers rutgered

That’s why it’s not a good trip to Vegas. The K State loss is a whopper. It’s not an overreaction to be disappointed in going 1-2 and question the coaching when we have the same problems as last year. Honestly, I was just trying to be optimistic/nice when I said it impacts seeding.

Being in Vegas and seeing RU Nation show out was very prideful. The disappointment is that we really should be 3-0 instead of 2-1 coming out of Vegas. Being up 9 on A&M with 10 minutes left with a wonderful second half surge and a much better rebounding effort , had me thinking things were in control .,We finally got our third scorer with Jeremiah with 20 and ACE with 24 and Dylan with 18. On almost most nights that is a win. But the refs who were batshit crazy calling breathing as a foul , caused almost our whole team into foul trouble , fouled out our 2 centers , and unnecessarily inserted themselves. Not giving Pike a pass , calling an unnecessary timeout up 7 or 9 , then allowing them to go on a run. Why was Jordan on Taylor and not Jeremiah, clearly our best defender with length ? The little mistakes down the stretch from Martini , the run out after Dylan ‘s turnover , the pass by Jordan to no one causing another run out.
We had done a great job adjusting to A&M ‘s defense which had a 1-2-2 to prevent Dylan driving downhill , but got the ball to the corner and a cut resulted in layup versus layup. Of course PJ not hitting an open three or JMike not hitting an open 3 when Jordan had Ace for the alkeyoop dunk that would have caused a timeout as we were ready to blow them out are just frustrating as hell. The overall 42-17 free throw disparity , foul trouble and foul outs it caused was too much to overcome once the little errors made in the late part of the game.

But overall , if you not encouraged by Ru after Vegas get a brain and give up watching good college basketball. You really do not know basketball. Dylan Harper put up 2 of best games a freshman has ever had in college basketball history nd had an off shooting night and only put up 18 in the third one.
ACE in the last 2 games against Alabama and A& M was unstoppable and displayed the NBA talent .
Jeremiah scored 10 in the Notre Dane and Alabama games , limited by foul trouble , but scored 20 today as our third scorer and was terrific cutting and on the offensive boards.
3 top scorers will normally be enough. Have to clean up the rebounding and the fouls , although the refs were horrendous in all 3 games , where we did not benefit in any of the 3 , but clearly were hurt in all 3.
This team will not only make the tourney but will likely challenge for the BiG 10 title.
Pissed as hell we didn’t go 3-0 but the glass is much more than half fulll. For the first time Pike challenged his team in a big time tourney, and will learn more from these 3 games , than all the cupcakes we played the prior 7 years. Stock up.

Enjoyed my week in Vegas and the team showed it can compete with NCAA big boys. However, competing and winning are two different things. The week showed we have 3 very good players and a subpar supporting cast. For example, Derkack scored 2 freakin points today. Not acceptable. Hayes is not good and Martini is far worse than not good. Acuff did not answered bell. The others are meh at best. Pike unwrapped Grant out of desperation. We will get better over time but so will most other teams. Could be looking at a .500 record this season depending on how good the other B10 teams are.

Same problems as last year? This team couldn’t be more different and last year’s team would’ve lost all three games by a combined 50 points.

They went toe to toe with a national title contender and a top 5 seed at a neutral site. I was upset with both losses but I can’t say I was disappointed.

keep putting a feather in your cap for another moral victory. We have Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey and are already behind schedule. Take a look at our first 5 games in B1G play. Coach needs to figure it out fast. You guys are happy about playing those games close, but it also took OT to be a mediocre ND team and we lost to KState. It’s not good.

Last three games - beat ND and came down to the wire against the #9 and #20 teams in the country

Night-and-day compared to the Kennesaw state debacle

Our young hot shots showed they are 100% worthy of the hype

Yet the more experienced role players (largely.. minus jwill) did not perform as well as needed

yet I see TONS of positive signs.

This is gonna be fun ride

The score is really irrelevant for me at this point. Obviously at some point that will matter but we’re not there yet. After the first 5 games against terrible competition it was pretty clear they had a lot of issues to fix if they wanted to make an impact in March. This tournament made me feel a lot better about some of this issues.

It depends on your expectations.

If you’re thinking this is a final 4 team: youve been delusional all along

But if you’re hoping this is an ncaa team: only a few games in and they went to the buzzer against the #9 and #20 teams in the country

…and there is lots of room for improvement.

Based on last few games I am actually enthusiastic.

The disparity in fouls directly affected the score and indirectly as well as our defense went to a soft, no fouling shell (and was called for fouls anyway). It’s why we lost, was not within our control, and thus I’m not worried about this loss.

I agree

As did the commentators!!

They repeatedly talked about how RU was defending “so as not to foul”.

The officiating absolutely changed the way we played. Our players went out of their way not to foul and the refs STILL callled fouls on us!!!!

The officiating was NOT the only reason we lost …. but it was ONE of them

…and 7 games in this is the first time I am saying that the officiating affected the outcome

You can see the potential. The role players we paid to come and help… need to help. Martini hopefully gets exposed less in a less athletic B1G. Moment I saw him vs St John’s I was concerned. Hayes looks lost unless he is totally uncovered at the 3 line. Acuff needs to give me more. All 3 are average athletically and pretty stiff. Jordan has done well.
