Considering that even 3 years ago our payout was less than Big12 teams, I think it's going awesome .. in 18 months we will finally get a payout that actually makes a clear difference.
Not really, we've taken a big step up in competition, were getting a 1/4 to 1/3 share for 6 yrs. and are still paying back loans to the B1G and are now competing. No one is calling us a joke any longer. If not for a boneheaded coaching decision, coupled with a fluke, we would be the talk of the town today. We had a Top 25 team on the ropes, just 5 yrs. ago that was unheard of.
Okay.. why don't we see Politti and other NJ writers call for the general public and businesses in NJ to support a Rutgers NIL?

Okay, but after ten years in the B10, it would be nice to actually win a game against a ranked team instead of just keeping it close.

A thread titled "how do we win more regularly" is a good debate when posted by an actual RU sports fan. That's not this.
This thread is just trolling, like the asshat that started trolling us towards the end of the football in-game thread on Saturday, and the fact that people are even responding to these trolls in any serious way, let alone defending them, gives it exactly what it craves.
If you look at other big college sport states the media, business, etc. are conditioned to do that and first backup their state teams. Politi and NJ media all think their responsibility is to attack where and whenever they can...and it's not just about Rutgers...it's the way the media works here in NJ on just about everything. I've been doing a lot of traveling to other college games. This year I went to 2 LSU games (and no, I do not like B Kelly or LSU...last year I want to a Clemson game...just road trips I take with my brother and friends). Not only do the media get behind them but Local Businesses even more so. I went to the Ole Miss at LSU game wearing my Rutgers jersey and hat...I got invited into multiple tailgates. The tailgate I last stuck with was run by a guy that owns 7 restaurants in Louisiana. I got into a good conversation with him at the end of the tailgate...since I was wondering how much he spent on meats and seafood. It was about $8k...but he didn't pay a dime. He told his supplier that he wanted the supplier to donate about $14k worth of food. The supplier gave him $8k (but to keep it hush in his supplier community). They do the same with NIL, etc. It stems from our fanbase, fanbase entrepreneur's demanding from their suppliers, etc. First of all, I know our fanbase isn't conditioned to request local businesses / suppliers contribute. Up until recently, we weren't even conditioned to donate $s for our seats. When you look at it, we have a large alumni base. Our base stretches into major business in the NYC market, Philly market, etc. Some of those alumni are involved in major marketing and advertising companies in NYC. Our university academics and athletics should be joining forces to reach out to alumni in such fields to 'grease the skids' a bit. It's happening elsewhere...it can happen here...it's just that we're not conditioned to do it and we need to learn how to get that together and make it happen. The conditioning here is not just about athletics, or our fan base but the reach from them to others. When I went to the VT game, I met a very well known VT staff that's been there since the 60s and been featured in TED talks, etc. Although he hasn't typically attended the football games recently (especially as he's gotten older), he was a proponent of the athletic / academic alignment to grow their university together. I told him next time we come down that we'll reach out to him to have him come tailgate with us. I could see the thought of it lit a bit of a fire in him...and he'd jump on it again. Back to my point...here in NJ, we not only need to condition the fan base, but we need the fan base to condition their contacts, especially entrepreneurs that have access to other business / business suppliers, alumni that have access to functions that can drive NIL and even demand it. An RU alumni in the advertising industry needs to step up and demand they include some Rutgers players in an advertisement such that they get paid. There are plenty of advertisements that pick a random unknown talent to use. Well...how about paying a football player to use his name, image and likeness...or a Wrestler, etc. I'm not sure how to get the media into the program moreso, but there has got to be some smart alumni from our Comms school that can help assess and take that on.

- We'd have a top 10 class in football and top 2 in MBB
- We've made 2 tournament appearances with a third only missing because of a global crisis
- We'd be ranked #41 nationally academically and top 15 public school
They'd have given their left nut for it
And they'd laugh off people bellyaching like they are now

A significant problem with this board: Troll = criticism of our athletic department.
The entry into the B10 was supposed to fill the coffers of our athletic department so that we could be competitive, not elite, but competitive in the revenue sports...the ones that really matter. I do not have to say anything about FB or WBB. MBB is better, but no Tourney in three years, so that is trending down. We also kept an athletic director spending most of his time at women's gymnastics tournaments. How long did that go on until he got canned? Now, we have to wait for a new president and a new AD. Do you honestly see a real path to how our revenue sports will be competitive within the next 3-5 years?

The implication is we'd be better off in another conference which is moronic. With Ash we were losing to Buffalo and Kansas.
The conference money isn't the problem. We rank last in the B1G in NIL, but are a middle of the pack team, so we are actually overperforming.
And we were in the tourney in 22.

Umm, I hate the break the news to you, but we ARE competitive. The outcome of Saturday’s game versus Illinois was a gut punch and there is lots to critique, but the game was super competitive against a ranked conference opponent. Basketball will be interesting this year if nothing else, and while the loss to Kennesaw St sucks, it’s by no means dooms the season. WBB is a dumpster fire, I’ll give you that.

We are in the muck of teams 5-17 in the conference -- beating up on each other. We shouldn't have beaten Minnesota (and yes Washington beat themselves more than we beating them), but we've had one blowout loss. Close losses to Nebraska, UCLA and Illinois. Close wins against Washington and Minnesota (and the Minnesota win wasn't that close). Definitive win over Maryland.
We are playing with our peers. That is what this season tells me. I still feel gut punched by Saturday's loss, but we are in a far better state than we were during Ash's tenure.
