Any chance NCST doesn't wrestle some starters like UNC did? Also, tickets are still available, so it seems like attendance could be a little light, as the arena capacity is 3,208.

They’ll inevitably have a match on Rokfin at some point. You need upwards for 5-7 subscription services to watch all of the Rutgers matches. It’s ridiculous.

This is what also really pisses me off. Most times I just say screw it, I'll just get the live updates.

The $2.99 is a small expense to watch the match but it is annoying as hell to have to sign up for another subscription. This match should have been held at the RAC. As a season ticket holder it feels like the athletic department flipped me the bird.

god forbid they make it easy on everyone and stream through one of the major providers that most people have such as ESPN+, Flo, etc..

All sports now require 15 different streaming subscriptions. I have B1G+, ESPN+, Amazon Prime video and Netflix, but won't bother with Flo, UFC fight pass, Rokfin, Peacock or anything else. I'm good missing it if I'm not there in person.

By all accounts this isn’t a home match. NC State picked the venue

If NC State wouldn’t come to JMA I’m sure that some other program would have jumped at the opportunity. I understand that the family relationship between the promoter and the NC State coach probably drove this.

Despite not being pleased about the circumstances I attempted to purchase tickets online for tomorrow. The website wanted an inordinate amount of personal information. I wanted to buy tickets, not begin a relationship.
Filled in the required info and then it went into a loop telling me that something that the their system filled in automatically was wrong. Tried to clear that field but the system would not allow me to do it. I went back to football on TV.

I hope others who want to attend had better luck than I did. On the positive side their system screw up saved me $60 and a lot of driving.

I'm not going either. Have the damn duals in the RAC. This home dual schedule is a joke.

This isn’t a home match. You’re looking at it wrong. Would you rather the team drive 8 hours for a road match or 30 minutes for the same experience?

It's not just about this set of duals tomorrow. There are only 6 home duals, and 4 of those duals are mandated by the B1G. There are 13 road or neutral duals. This coaching staff (meaning Goodale) decided to plan a non-conference schedule of 2 home duals and 9 road duals. Really?

Also, this is not the first time. Remember 2022-2023? 4 B1G mandated home duals, 1 dual at the Barn for which you had to purchase tickets separately, and another 13 road or neutral duals. The ticket office actually was shamed into issuing season ticket holders a credit for the next season.

What are you trying to accomplish with scheduling so many road/neutral duals? Does it build your season ticket buyer base? Does it build interest in the team? What are your thoughts?

This won't grow the sport and just aggravates our fans and pushes them to not buy season tickets anymore. Home matches on campus grow the sport. This couldn't sell out 3k tickets. If NCST isn't willing to do a home and home, then that's sad and they're the problem. Wrestling can't get out of its own way.

I'd rather our team drive 8 hours for a road match next year after NC State drives eight hours to the JMA this year. Just like we are doing with Va Tech. The HS season hasn't started yet. What an opportunity to pack the home gym and get some buzz around this program! How about RU-Missouri or Stanford or Oklahoma or SD State or Cornell tomorrow, all home and home? All of these would sell individual and season tickets. Let NC State wrestle Hofstra tomorrow at the same time. We're a B1G program. Let's start acting like one. $$$$

There's a reason Sean Bormet issued the plea below. If the wrestling world doesn't wake up and change it's stupid ways, it'll be gone...

A message from Michigan Wrestling Head Coach Sean Bormet regarding college wrestling this season!! Great message on how we can all support our Michigan college programs amidst upcoming NCAA Wrestling changes:

---
Dear Wrestling Families, Coaches, and Enthusiasts,

I hope you’re as excited as I am for the start of wrestling season! We’re at a pivotal time for NCAA Division I athletics, especially for Olympic sports like wrestling.

As many of you know, the recent House v. NCAA settlement has led to significant changes in college athletics. Consequently, Division I athletic departments nationwide are reassessing their sports offerings and making crucial decisions about resource allocation to adapt to this new financial landscape. One key factor in this process is the fan base strength reflected by attendance and growth potential.

Now more than ever, your support matters. The best way to shape the future of college wrestling is to show up, live and in person, at dual meets. While TV and streaming make it convenient to watch from home, this season is a call to action for in-person attendance—to fill our arenas, energize our teams, and demonstrate wrestling’s true value and popularity across the state of Michigan.

This isn’t just about our program; it’s a call to action for the entire Michigan wrestling community, especially for our Division I programs at Central Michigan University, Michigan State University, and the University of Michigan. Let’s make wrestling one of the most well-attended sports across every campus!

Our first home dual meet is this Sunday, November 17th, at 5 p.m. against Columbia at Crisler Center. I would love to see each of you there and bring your family and friends along! Coaches, please consider bringing your youth or high school wrestlers – let’s inspire the next generation by showing them the excitement of college wrestling firsthand.

Single meet tickets and group tickets are affordable, making it easy for everyone to join in. Your presence in the arena is crucial to strengthening the future of wrestling in the state of Michigan. Let’s make a powerful statement together!

Thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing many of you this Sunday at Crisler. Please consider and feel free to share this with everyone in your own wrestling network or community.

Bormet's plea says alot and he's obviously very passionate about the sport. How many other coaches have taken the time to script a response such as this? He wants people in their gym. Rutgers chose to book a paltry home schedule just like two years ago then adds a south NJ match? That's two of three years with a bad home schedule and not a good way to retain and build a fanbase.

I don’t disagree with anything you guys are saying but should the solution be “I’m not going or watching”? Doesn’t that just add to the problem?

By not buying tickets many would feel that it sends a message regarding displeasure with events like this. I guess it depends on what an individual’s definition of what “the problem” is. If those who support the program and see the problem as these neutral site events and don’t buy in will they continue to be scheduled? That appears to be one of the drivers for those who have chosen to sit this one out.

I’m surprised that the SKWC didn’t schedule some sort of social in conjunction with this event. Some people will be making a long drive for this and some sort of pre or post event gathering would probably have been welcomed by those folks.

Yeah unfortunately there is a ton of shortsightedness when it comes to wrestling for some reason which again makes it nearly impossible to grow the sport.

The problem is you’re sending the message to the wrong people. Goodale whether you like him or not is at the forefront of the grow the sport mentality. He’s candid about everything and has advocated for a lot of things to help grow the support, such as a dual tournament. The people you should be mad at are guys coaches who keep things top secret, duck opponents, etc.

To be clear- I am not sending any message. I’m writing what people have told me.
