Why was the RAC so quiet?

Building got loud when it had to. Pikes priming of the crowd usually works. As for why.. game was never really in doubt. As you’ve read, defense was not good. I think the crowd is at its best when the d is hair on fire for possessions at a time. The loudness after a bucket is short lived

Not surprising

You might not hear it really loud till the first big ten game, or,
if RU is in a tight game late
It was loud for St Peters. Last night was never in doubt and we played crappy d.

PSU is good and games have been dogfights last five years. Will be a blast. SHU always is
Now will RU actually sell tix or let Seatgeek or others manipulate crowd?

I agree it was pretty quiet especially in the 2nd half. I attributed it to the comfortable margin of victory and RU’s lack of intensity on defense, The RAC crowd usually responds to great defense and there was very little on display in the second half!

St. Peters game, crowd needed to be louder; this one was pretty much done - until it wasn't; and with a little over 4 minutes left everyone woke up (including the D) for a few minutes. So will see on Wed with the later start time if fans can get in sooner; place fills up (kind of) by start time, but not so much - including student section - when team comes out. Thought Friday's game (with Ace) might get more fans in earlier; but that didn't happen; maybe, hopefully will be better by 1st conference game.

BTW - NOT every BTN broadcast is the same. Sometimes you can clearly hear the crowd, even early in the season AND sometimes it doesn't sound loud during B1G play. I think it all depends where they send what equipment, or something like that, and it drives me nuts. You'll even hear the announcers going gaga over the crowd, while watching on TV, and be thinking "huh?" sometimes.

Now you can ask this same question after this one; not sure why the students are just not into it yet; granted not an overly exciting game - but when the loudest it got was when the young man was dancing - and toward the end when things got a little closer - just a pretty low key building right now. Expect it to get back to normal in December.

I dont think the RAC recovered from Covid. The 2019-2020 season was so special. No games in 20-21. 21-22 we suffered thru ridiculous mask and vax mandates. 22-23 we beat Purdue but crapped out by seasons end with a bad offense. 23-24 was a giant misstep.

But mostly the games are against nobodies with an uneven performances

Think it's more observation versus analyzation; historically we don't sell out these early OOC games. So just thought the student section would be more into it - especially over last two games with Ace & Dylan. On the post game - Ace talked about the crowd being great - and Jerry said something like just wait for the conference games to start. So agree, December will be back to normal crazy.

So it depends who is in the truck pushing the buttons. Some broadcast production emphasize the crowd noise and some don't.

At least is was 90-95% full last night. That's a good thing. The intensity of the fans has always been overrated based on a few exciting upsets. It's small percentage that really get into the game. Most people either sit quietly or at most politely applaud.

The intensity of the crowd is driven by the game. Is it close? Is Rutgers making a comeback? Is Rutgers on a run? Is the game in doubt? Rutgers never seemed to go on a real run against Merrimack. Rutgers never fell behind and the game never seemed in doubt so there wasn’t the intensity from the fans or the team that is typical of RAC home games. As we get into more competitive games the RAC will rock!

Not even sure if there was a Bells Must Ring timeout by Merrimack

The RAC will be insane come conference play. It is hard to get that excited for games we are expected to win and against teams that are not well known.

However, I do have some concern that secondary market prices will prevent a good chunk of maniacs from being able to attend regularly.

For example, I can not afford season tickets anymore and with single game 300 level tickets for conference play starting at about $60 plus fees, I will probably be able to make maybe 2-3 conference games whereas I usually attend 6-8.

Unless we are playing lights out, secondary prices for the 300s will tank closer to games. Particularly the weeknight games
