For those from a certain time, Lesh was one of the best bass players in rock music. RIP. My past is quickly passing away.

Thank you for posting. Sad day, but as I said on other forums, he brought us so many great memories and music that younger generations embraced - many of whom were born after Jerry passed away. The music always lives on.
Saw Phil and Friends a bunch of times about 20 years ago because a buddy always bought tix.
Great musician, not my music, but always enjoyed it. Saw them at my first Red Rocks show back then. What a time. RIP Phil!

Cool that you saw a show at Red Rocks. One of my favorite Dead - Phil memories was at MSG in 1983. They brought out St. Stephen after never playing it on the east coast for more than 10 years. He actually joins in singing at the end (let Phil sing was a big deal among Deadheads at the time). They blew the roof off the place. It was as loud as I heard it during Knicks playoff games.
Part of being a Deadhead is having parts of your youth ripped-away from you from time-to-time. As much as I'll miss Phil, at least, his passing was timely--unlike Pigpen, Vince, Brent and, of course, Jerry. At 84, Phil had already continued on with a liver transplant and had survived ongoing bouts with cancer. Still, nobody will ever again enjoy the live experience of "Box of Rain" with Phil on vocals performing. perhaps, his best song (and, the favorite of many Deadheads) ever again, Grateful Dead - "Box of Rain" - Live - Philly - 7-7-89.
RIP Englishtown will always be a fresh memory for me. And you hit home saying my past is quickly passing away.
