Love that we are playing old big east rivals the last few years (and crushing them). Would now love a series with WVU. The interaction with their fan base were the best and this was the one team that Greg and RU couldn't ever beat.

Would be great payback for Greg and many of our alum and we owe them especially for 2006 and 2011 and 80-7 in 2001.

Let's get it done. We would beat them now.

Agree . I do love the old big east matchups.

The old big east + Penn state would’ve been incredible.
I think the regional conferences have to make a come back once this runaway NCAA train crashes.

I hope RU continues to use at least 1 (maybe 2 one day) non conference games to play the old big east schools.

Pitt
Miami
Cuse
BC
VT
WVU
LVille

Even our “easier” games could be the
Uconn
Temple
USF / Cinci are probably more middle of the road challenge wise

Nah . Sked is tough enough. I want 3 guaranteed wins at this point
We become a perennially playoff team then I can get behind playing these games
WE have to schedule at least one OOC game against an Autonomous conference. We don't have a game for 2025 yet -- maybe we can get Ole Miss since Wake just bought out of the return game

If we’re not beating the likes of those teams .. then we ain’t a playoff team .

I think the non conference regional games are important. Nobody gives a F about Howard Akron Norfolk State Maine Eastern Mich Miami (OH) etc …

Anyone that’s been to Morgantown can attest

Also, nothing to gain
We’re P2, they’re not
Zero recruiting or alumni down there as well

Thankfully that ship has sailed
Onward and upward
I lean this way for same reasons, however, we play VTech Saturday for no good reason. VTech is not "Virginia".. it is a much better academic school than WVU but has the same regional issues.

I think we need to think about how to spread our recruiting to a more national level... but focused. People have said Houston area is full of recruits like Florida and Georgia. How about some teams from those areas.. both P4 and G5 (2 for 1 or better)

I greatly enjoyed our game week with WV fans. My favorite game week of all from the past. Would be great fun for fans of both programs, I think.

However, it's far from certain that we would beat them. And for reasons others have already pointed out, it's not really in our team's best interest to play that game. At least not at the moment.

I think Temple is a good out of conference team to play. They are close by and we love recruiting PA guys.
Temple would be a good choice for a 'War Before the Shore' Labor Day series, but they seem to have gone into the crapper again. Probably no benefit unless the terms of a home and home with them are better than a buy game from another G5 school. Although as a former Big East school, play them. Play them all on rotating basis.

Bigger upside playing VT bs. WVU in every conceivable metric

Also, not going to Morgantown and going to Blacksburg is a world of difference

Not mutually exclusive. For us the idea is to fool pollsters with a good record…but yes, top teams can schedule top OOC once a year.

A schedule of Virginia Tech, Washington, Nebraska, Wisconsin, USC, UCLA, Michigan St., Maryland, Illinois and Minnesota is trying to fool pollsters? You really need to broaden your horizons and look around the country at the dogsh*t schedules a lot of teams play.

Rice is in Houston. But if it's not a home and home they won't bite. They're not desperate for money.

it was reported just recently that no new Power 4 OOC games would be parting our scheduling formula going forward. So this is a dead issue.
Im assuming the already scheduled series with BC will remain on the scheduled

It would be fun to play the mountaineers though. Maybe we get them in a bowl game some day.

What does this mean? 3 non-P opponents? Or just playing the ACC/former Big East schools?

Yes. And that's it.

Three guaranteed home games. All bought, so guessing no series moving forward. Which is very important to stick to at least 7 home games for $$$.

Doesn't mean one of those can't come here to play. Which I'm fine with, the old Florida way of doing away games...no white jerseys unless they are conference or bowl games.

Playing any school whose footprint is in a horrible college football recruiting area and who can be helped by more access to NJ recruiting (BC, Syr, UConn) is stupid. Let them rot.

I doubt that one game every 10 years will give one of the ACC schools sudden inroads to NJ. They have always had it, BC through its connection to the parochial schools and Syracuse recruited nationally. Playing better than them and being a destination school, and probably beating them in head to head competition, should stem the recruiting loss!

What’s the point in playing them? None of them are considered a quality win outside of the northeast.

People who pay attention to the greater college football world know that Rutgers would get more credit for beating a mediocre SEC or B12 team than they would for beating another northeast team.

Plum nails it again.

I prefer that RU employs a “cut off the oxygen” approach with schools like WVU who want to build their recruiting in the NJ area by playing us.

U misunderstood…Shelby was agreeing with the fellow who said that if we aren’t interested in upping our OOC and risk losing and undermining playoff contention, we don’t deserve the playoffs anyway.

Of course big dogs play patsies because they also have wins against top 20 teams to validate their ranking. Since we don’t have these kinds of wins, our strategy is to maximize wins by scheduling weaker teams. What’s our OOC SOS been ?
