Band plays for the Akron crowd!
Brilliant!
Guests in luxury boxes. Nope
Dignitaries… nope
RU high rollers…. Nope.
Home fans… nope.

Embarrassing!

Do we not bleed Scarlet?
Would it kill the band to play to the RU side?

Here’s a wild concept. Put a camera on the home side. Mind blown!

majority of the lower bowl between the 30 yard lines are ru fans...just buy a seat on the visitors side if you want to watch the band at half... RU is not putting a stationary camera on the opposing side just for the band for 3 mins of TV time.....where do the "band parents" congregate for seating?

I sit on the east side and don’t really care that the band plays to the west side, but doesn’t make sense why they don’t rotate sides each game. It’s not a competition.

Or walk to the other side at halftime.

Marching Bands should be eliminated in sports. Too costly. If people insist on keeping a marching band, just have them perform concerts for those who enjoy listening to them. In today’s day and age, 9/10 football game attendees couldn’t care less about the marching band.
Ok genius, tell that to OSU and Michigan fans to start. You would be sorely mistaken.

Not a fan of marching bands at all, but some apparently are. But I do like pep bands. Go figure.

So, you think the west stands are filled with Akron fans?
Hahahahaha!
LOL, he started a thread about this on the pay side and got no traction there so he starts a new one here on the free board to the same result.

Meanwhile, it was explained to this rocket scientist that the reason that occurred was because Greg changed which sideline is the home team side. Now guess what couldn't be changed, where all the cameras are located.

Wouldn't it look great that all the performance footage of the band is with their backs to the camera just to satisfy this guy...lol.

Clueless. Its atmosphere and school pride and spirit. One of the most stupid comments I have read on this board.

It sure is disappointing watching the Alabama game, Ole Miss game and hearing their awesome bands play songs, cheers, drum cadences etc. after EVERY play, it sounds so cool, so collegiate, you can hear the crowd, awesome atmospheres. Then to think how RU blasts “”ALL ABOARRRD HAHAHA” at volume 150% followed by dead silence, so so frustrating that no one in athletics gamedsy experience gets this.

The real old-timers know the west stands were the home side from 1938 until Schiano arrived and wanted to be opposite the TV cameras. In the old days.. games were mostly afternoon.. 1pm 2pm start? and there were maybe 9 a season total and the 5 home games would have been in warmer weather. So, the west stands were the shaded stands and sidelines.

So.. if we moved TV cameras to the East stands, then Schiano would move the team back to the west side. Have no idea if all the season tix will reverse with the team.

but, yeah, band should play to both sides. take turns.

Idiot's gonna idiot.
So the band plays to the press box!
So that’s the target audience!?! Lol
Idiot’s gone to idiot? Irony!

Even my high school band played to both sides of the field at half time

Cameras? Mmmmm. You could put cameras on both sides. Not all that difficult.
And band isn’t really playing for tv at all. Most telecasts at halftime primarily highlights and scores.
Playing for the people in the stands.

I like the walk to the other side of the stadium suggestion that makes all the sense in the world. Ever try doing that? It’s quick and easy with our super wide concourses and no food, beer and bathroom lines to navigate whatsoever.

And where exactly are you supposed to sit when you walk to the other side. Inquiring minds want to know?

Old angry man yells at cloud?
Traction?

It’s a message board! Discussion of RIVAL points of view is encouraged.

Amused by Posters who are threatened by any change. Idiots going to idiot? Really? lol!

Just common sense by a fan who is bemused and amused.

Remember this is the same Rutgers that buried the Birth of College Football sign where you can not even see it anymore.

The same Rutgers that had the lead Flag bearer run AWAY from the Student section for the Eric Legrand tribute. Or the same Rutgers that forget to play the chorus of Don’t Stop Believing which is the whole point. Some fans pointed the obvious errors out and lo and behold changes occurred. :)

You want a better experience for ALL fans, play to the home side once in awhile. The Pride of New Jersey should play to the entire State… I mean stadium… ;-)

The angry men yelling at clouds are actually the angry men yelling at other poster. Irony?

Idiot's gonna idiot was aimed at R1766U's comment, not you. Look at the context of the quotes i posted before getting your panties in a twist. As a former member of the Rutgers Marching Band I will always reply to idiots like that who know nothing about the time and effort the members of the band put in.

Yes, the band plays to the press box because that's where the cameras are if they're shown at halftime. Not saying it's right, but just how it is. Most college bands do that.

Cameras? Mmmmm. You could put cameras on both sides. Not all that difficult.

Okay, you can start with petitioning the Big Ten Network to do that. Good luck! Rutgers does NOT control where the cameras go.

While I understand that the band plays to the tv cameras, why?

They don’t air halftime performances on tv. And if they did for a few seconds is it that big a deal if the band is playing away?

Is it simply so they can get a recording of their performance internally? To study and review. Or send out for promotional opportunities.

“Home side” only refers to the players.
You keep saying this.

It’s not a bowl game with 50/50 fans.
The stadium is 95% “home side”.
You realize away fans sit on the “home side” in the upper level, right?

Band plays other team’s song each game. You are not breaking any big story. Same thing happens at other big 10 venues.

I don’t know if the luxury boxes are on my side of the stadium, I’d call that the home side.
If the Governor and dignitaries come to visit this side of the stadium, I’d call that the home side.
I think home side means more than just the players.

Band should play to both sides of the field.
Why is anyone questioning this?

When Corzine attended he was one row below me in section 105, west side. He’s the last governor I’ve seen attending.
