Southern PAWGS are gonna take good care of Cliff. I’m sure he got his fill at Rutgers to the dismay of many on these boards.

Is it really half million less when factoring taxes and cost of living in Alabama?
good point- probably more, depending on the state that offered him $2M. But cost of living- don't players get free housing and meals as "students?"

These valuations are insane.
Good for the players.

But just so odd that adults are over funding their hobby. I’m all for donations for buildings facilities scholarships etc because at least those are targets and tangible things. Now we’re just bribing with no end in sight. And yes I also think the coaches salaries (and terms) have also long been out of control in “bubble” like fashion.

I contrite to KTR and all but you had Villanova alumni at Ridgewood country club tonight paying $4k+ for a round of golf and then throwing thousands more on auction items.

There are about 800 billionaires in the US. Lets say you were an older Multi Billionaire who already donates a substantial sum to good causes but wanted to see your alma mater or local team win a championship before you kick off. What's a couple extra million dollars to you? Some programs are lucky to have ultra rich benefactors.

Great Osobor, the big from Utah State, got $2Million NIL from U of Washington to go there. The Cliff offer seems legit, skilled big men are going to bring the big 💰💰💰 offers. I don't think the Paul NIL paid off for them though.

College sports has always been "adults over funding their hobby".
No other sport asks (begs? demands?) the fans to over fund the sport.

Maybe other sports should start asking fans to chip in:
"Anaheim Angels unable to resign Ohtani unless fans chip in for his contract."

"Report: Detroit Pistons would like to move on from HC Monty Williams. However, he is still owed over $60m. Pistons GM is looking for fans to step up and pay the rest of the money."

An easy argument could be made that donating towards a player or even a specific player is much more tangible than a nebulous "weight room upgrade" that may or may not provide a program improvement at some point in the future.
Alabama donors will be able to literally see Clif score points or block shots.

right..and who knows, maybe the other suitor is also a low tax state. it does seem like he took a lower offer, probably based on anticipated role and fit.

However, bribing or paying players to play leaves a bad taste in one's mouth. As fans, we buy tickets, we contribute to facility funds, but now we have to pay the players' exorbitant salaries in order for them to play? NIL has turned into a disaster.

The point of my post was not to say that NIL is right or wrong. It was to explain why some programs with very rich benefactors might be able to lure in some players on huge NIL deals.

Note that as a fan you really are not obligated to do anything. You can choose to spend your money or not as you wish in terms of tickets, donations, NIL etc. The point I was making however was that if an older RU superfan was uber rich.....say net worth in the billions.....I could easily see that person throwing a million into the NIL pot to secure a high end center for RU this season given the promise of the roster.

What better way to donate than to buy a player that wins games ? You can see tangible results as opposed to a weight room

Me thinks the disaster is only just beginning.

Possibly, but the next mega billionaire from another school's NIL will try and swoop in with more $$. NIL deals will get sillier and sillier going forward without any form of regulation.
