I’m not saying we should get rid of him. I was simply saying to those who want him out that Rutgers won’t pay a new coach much. I’m warning becareful what you wish for because if they dump Pike the program won’t recover.
That being said I’m not for making the excuses that you are in your post. We’ve been declining for the last few years and just because we have two great one and dones coming in doesn’t mean we’ll have success in 24-25. Also the cupboard could be bare in 25-26. Pike needs to change things up from the recruiting and offensive philosophy of the past couple years.

You can't say over and over and over "still only a sophomore!" about Simpson and then not give Davis any credit when he's still only a freshman
Thanks Scangg. Eugene O was a frosh and killed by someone on this board. And got better. Simpson has played 60 games. Don't see it. Needs 10 lbs of muscle.
Too bad our S&C is trash. From getting 2 T’s in the B1G tournament to the teams always fluttering out at the end of the season. That staff needs to be gutted also.
This is big boy sports now. All these guys wants 5-6 figure annual NIL pay days on top of a 100-200k scholarship value, on top of free gear for 4 years, on top of free tutors, free books, flying private everywhere, free hotels, insane training facilities and living like a king on campus.
I think they can deal with some online critics.
Personally I think way more of us should want than Derek back than seem to. He was in his head this year. He was as good as Davis his Frosh year. Sophomore slump for sure. Plus he's going to be like the 8th/9th man if he stays. We aren't getting a better portal player to come in and fill that role. Plus he's a Jersey guy, been a RU ambassador since he stepped foot on campus. Made big plays for us and won multiple games for us.
I just think in general with this portal a guy has a rough stretch and half the fanbase wants him gone for some shiny new toy they have no real idea if he'll be any better. I'm more loyal than that
He is abysmal and at best he will be a 4th guard as a junior. He belongs at a lower conference. Everyone gets good on D under Pike. They want it because the rules allow it. I think the rules suck. But that’s no excuse for posters low-rent behavior.
Disappointing season given the expectations, but we have to remember he's a freshman who's improved as of late. He has an off-season to work on S&C. He'll be surrounded by people better than Hyatt and Fernandes next season.
Maybe he's not a starter but I want him back.
S&C better be more effective for him than it was for Derek. Hope we manage to actual bulk him up

Listen I'm not going to argue that he had a good year. He did not. I just think if he's willing to accept a lesser role you take him back 100%. He's too good of a FT shooter too say he can't shoot. He can shoot. He's just not taking the right shots. Some out of necessity, some are just poor shot selections.

I know its been shot down but I still wouldnt be shocked if Davis is projected 4th guard (Harper, Transfer, Jwill) and Gavin is 3rd or 4th wing (Ace, Transfer, Transfer) that one of them enters the portal.

Yup. First actually bad year in at least 5 seasons and next year will be the schools most anticipated season ever. Like ain’t going anywhere nor should he.
When we were 10/10 I stated my doubts of Rutgers winning more than 5 more or 15 total . We’ll see very soon but two consecutive years of college crapping the bed in the final month of the season…Injuries galore… dumb turnovers… no offense … coaching questions. Yet many still hanging onto several years ago.
GG’s issue on offense is that he’s not an isolation player so can’t shine in this unstructured, playground offense.

I like your first group. Ogbole too but Mag can take a hike (which it sounds like he will) and Oskar needs to go. There are too many available players that can outperform in that role.
Sometimes you just read what you see; Cliff's emotions looked like this is his last time playing on this court. Oskar hugging everyone at the end - looked the same; Mag received a nice ovation, and good way to move on. Wolf was replaced by Ogbole - and will be interesting to see decision made on giving his time to learn - or move on and get a back up to back-up 5. Simpson is a real issue. Can't be on the floor with Davis - and won't be a starter. So definite decision time. JWill (some have to be kidding if you don't want him back); Davis and Gavin - but boy what is going on with those 2 foul shots. With the S&C coach maybe add in a sports psychologist.

The amount of love and free pass that Davis gets is mind boggling and infuriating.

I guess we'll find out, lol. If he stays I think he plays a reserve role next year and then who knows his Senior year. Might become what we all thought he would be this year...or better.
By saying the "right shots" I think he needs to stop driving at full speed and trying to elevate for the mid range J. Or maybe needs to alter the way he's shooting it. Something about it just looks off. Like he's hanging in the air too long and almost shooting on the way down from his shot instead of at the apex.
I also respect the hell out of him digging in defensively and improving his rebounding numbers as the year went on. That is exactly what I tell my players to do when their offense is lagging. Can still help the team in plenty of other ways.
