Rutgers Women's Basketball Goes on the Road to Face Nebraska

Those of us who support the student athletes care. One can be disappointed in the record and still care about the team.
Up 14 in the 4th. And refs doing their best to try to keep Nebraska in the game. Couple playis where Nebraska player should have been awarded take down points. Also Nebraska has a big girl in the middle. I counted to 9 mississippi one time when she was in the lane.
I spoke too early. As I was typing now up 8. Now 5 before I could hit post.
Big win by the ladies. Not sure what happened on the last play as box score took forever to update.
Rutgers 71-70. Referees did their best to keep Nebraska in the game.
Any time Rutgers teams win road games its a great day.

Antonia is a PG. She just has to keep getting stronger. They all are getting that valuable experience,....due to the limited roster.

Nebraska made a perfect lob but the girl missed the layup. Sloppy play in the last five minutes plus the ref's trying to give Nebby the win made me think we were in for a heart raking loss but a win is a win is a win!
Team definitely needs to tighten up their ball handling. Too many sloppy and weak passes, and balls stolen off the dribble. Shooting 60% bailed them out yesterday.

CONGRATS to the ladies. Big step getting conference win #1 on the road vs a team likely headed to the post-season. Much need and hopefully will be a catalyst towards better times. We'll see.

I couldn't help but think, after Shelley got the steal and layup off of Antonia toward the end, .....Kiyomi on the court for us eliminates that scenario from happening. She may have even allowed for us to finish running away with that game yesterday, as we started to do.
By next season, our guards will be physically stronger and will have hopefully strengthened their handles. Kiyomi, Mya, Jill, and Lisa, along with wing players that can safely put it on the floor (Smikle, Antoinia, Zachara, and Destiny) , we should be a hard team to press. Hopefully, Awa will be a med redshirt and come back for another year. She had the experience of playing PG last season.
This is definitely the silver lining to the short roster. They all get the best opportunity to grow quickly in a nurturing culture. Now let's add an elite post and wing with Kiyomi and we're not too far away from where we want to be.
Antonia needs to study some footage of Magic Johnson. She needs to learn how to use her body and length as the shield to protect the ball from the defender. Forget about crossing over right in front of a defender. She's better off using the between the leg or behind the back dribble, or a spin move to change direction than a crossover that puts the ball right there to be stolen.

Not to be picky but she is not short 6 players - she has 10 scholarship players plus one walk-on. Don’t think she can have 16 on scholarship. Unfortunately two, Smikle and Sidibe aren’t currently available
