Big 5 is history they are calling it City 6 now

wrong BAC

“We were kind of at an inflection point with Big 5 basketball, with the national landscape of NCAA sports, what can we do to perhaps infuse some energy, some life and protect our brand of basketball,” Drexel athletic director Maisha Kelly said.

And no, Kelly said, Drexel didn’t want a series name change like some had suggested to the City Six.

“That’s the brand. It’s Philadelphia. It’s the Big 5,” she said. “It’s part of our story and history. So 100 years from now, when people say, why is it Big 5 when there are six institutions, we get to tell the first 68 years of the story of what it was and in 2023 it was Drexel arriving.”

St. Joe's is really talented. Their freshman PG will be playing for a really good high major in a year or two.

Nova basically destroyed the Big 5 as we knew it. When the BE took off in the 80s, the Big 5 games were no longer competitive and the double headers at the Palestra were mostly empty for the games that didn't involve Nova. So then, the teams began to play Big 5 games at their home gyms. Only later in the 80s, when John Chaney took Temple to the top of the rankings was anyone else in the Big 5 and in the east generally, permitted to have televised games beyond the local Philly station(s?).

For everyone wanting to play in the Bahamas, unfortunately this sometimes happens to teams. We NEED neutral site games close that doesn’t involve too much traveling
